Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international independent medical humanitarian organization that provides aid to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters. MSF provides independent, impartial assistance to those most in need. MSF reserves the right to speak out to bring attention to neglected crises, to challenge inadequacies or abuse of the aid system, and to advocate for improved medical treatments and protocols.

The Access Campaign undertakes research and advocacy to raise the importance of the issue of access to essential medicines internationally. The Campaign hopes to achieve sustainable solutions to reduce the price of existing medical technologies as well as to stimulate medical research and development for diseases that primarily affect developing countries and low-income populations.

The New York office of MSF is seeking an Access Campaign Researcher to support the on-going research and administrative activities of the Access Campaign. This includes tracking the current issues relevant to the Access Campaign, providing research and analytical support to the U.S. Manager of the Access Campaign, supporting the overall management of data and files, and assisting in preparation of advocacy meetings and mailings.

Position responsibilities:

  • Conducts research on current MSF Access Campaign topics including HIV/AIDS, vaccines, nutrition and neglected diseases, as well as work on intellectual property, financing, and medical research and development
  • Prepare memos and reports to be used internally and externally for advocacy purposes
  • Tracks Access Campaign related information including listserves, meetings, calls, media, and publications and identify advocacy targets
  • Provides general administrative support to the campaign including organizing and preparing meetings, database entry, mass mailings, filing, etc

Qualifications:

  • Master or graduate degree. Background in law, medicine or global health preferred
  • Preferable previous related experience and or knowledge and interest on global health, congressional and US government policy-making processes, international intellectual property and trade, and new medical innovation models.
  • Genuine commitment to MSF's medical and humanitarian principles and to the public interest, with an interest in medical humanitarian aid and the struggle for access to essential medicines
  • Excellent research and writing skill
  • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading ability
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment

Salary range: low 30s for 21 hours/week, commensurate with experience; excellent benefits.
