Assistant Manager I - Project Coordination

The person will take project management lead at NRS level for biofortification breeding project of IRRI’s and partners’ Golden Rice Projects. He/she will perform the following specific functions: project administration and management, coordination, monitoring, and communications as well as assisting with information searches and reporting.



Duties

1.Project Management and Coordination

  • Provide overall assistance to the Project Manager in managing all activities of the Golden Rice project, including budgeting, reporting and monitoring to ensure timely execution and completion of project activities, and generation of all program outputs.
  • Lead in ensuring the required equipment and physical infrastructure upgrades are planned and carried out for IRRI and partners in the Golden Rice projects.
  • Prepare and consolidate the annual project budget in close consultation with the Project Manager and Project Coordinator.
  • Provide strategic and technical inputs in developing and packaging project proposals.
  • Provide all administrative and logistical support to the staff at the IRRI for plant breeding activities and for those at the Rice Biotechnology Laboratory working on Golden Rice related research activities.
  • Provide all administrative and logistical support in the biosafety regulatory compliance and multi-location field testing of Golden Rice and subsequent regulatory dossier preparation.
  • Assist in the contract renewals of all Golden Rice project staff at IRRI.
  • Coordinate and finalize reports related to the project and other activities.
  • Prepare materials for presentations.

2.Events management

  • Organize and/or participate in project meetings/call-ins/reviews/seminars, including dialogue with NARES and other partners in consultation with the PL, PIs/Conveners concerned.

3.Research

  • Conduct literature searches for materials required for project proposals, reporting and publication.

4.Monitoring

  • Together with the Project Manager, monitor and periodically review project implementation for timely execution and performance of the biofortification breeding team.
  • Review research progress and movement of resources in all project outputs by working closely with the Golden Rice Project Manager and Project Coordinator.

5.Training

  • Train project staff and provide relevant advice on issues related to administrative components and relations to different internal and external stakeholders (NARES, among others) for smooth implementation of project activities.

6.Communications

  • Write up project related information for IRRI-internal publications, peer reviewed journals, websites and announcements.
  • Handle all logistical and administrative requirements of the Golden Rice Communications Team.

7.Perform other tasks related to project planning and management.

Qualification requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree preferably in Agriculture or in business/administrative area
  • 5 years in research/project management
  • Excellent skills in business administration tools, strategic planning and time management
  • Basic understanding on rice plant breeding/genetics
  • Demonstrated ability in inter-personal relations involving all staff levels.
  • Excellent knowledge of Institute policies and operating procedures
  • Substantial experience in event planning/management
  • Strong writing skills (written and oral)
  • Advanced knowledge of word processing software and spreadsheets (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • A team player (to work with various levels of administrative and research staff at IRRI HQ, IRRI Outreach and partners).
  • Organized - must be willing to work on a wide range of project activities and be able to manage competing priorities; flexibility, creativity, reliability and a calm, pleasant attitude.
