INTRODUCTION TO THE ENVIRONMENT
APM Terminals’ Asia Pacific (APAC) Region is looking for a Regional Head of Business Development. The Region includes wholly owned terminals and joint ventures with a current portfolio of 17 marine terminals (container and/or general cargo terminals) and 19 Inland Services entities located in India, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand and Japan.
The APAC region is a very dynamic and diverse region and we aim to continue expanding our portfolio of terminals and inland services facilities by investing in new projects throughout the region.
This position offers an outstanding opportunity to join the global team at APM Terminals and contribute to the success of the regional and global organization. The position reports to the CEO of the Asia-Pacific Region and is a part of the APAC Regional Management Team and functionally works in coordination with our Corporate Business Development Team in Hague, The Netherlands.
Purpose:
Identify, evaluate and secure new terminals and large inland services facilities through public tenders, direct agreements or acquisitions. Evaluate and validate expansion plans and develop the business development strategy for geographic scope.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Deliver a winning strategy for developing profitable projects and beating competition; lead the regional BDV team.
- Securing the Deals
· Identify, Screen & Evaluate Projects
· Develop recommendations for investments
· Lead and participate in the negotiation process
· Drive and manage technical planning in cooperation with various departments
· Develop world class stakeholder engagement and establish second-to-none relationships with key decision and policy makers (to secure deals).
- Global Leadership
· Play an active role in developing global BDV strategy and driving global performance with peers.
- Existing portfolio
· Board membership of some of our existing entities.
· Drive divestments if and when necessary.
- Internal Processes
· Ensure adherence to internal project and approval process
· Manage relationships with other A.P. Moller – Maersk Group Business Units
REPORTING AND SCOPE:
- Direct reports who are individual contributors
- Reports to CEO, APAC Region
- Key member of Global BDV leadership team.
- The scope of the role is APAC Regional including India Sub-continent
WORK AND BUSINESS CONTACTS:
· External parties in relation to specific projects; including joint venture partners, port authorities, governments, etc.
· Customers including main shipping lines and forwarders.
· APM Terminals and A.P. Moller – Maersk Group staff; corporate and regional
CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
· Mandatory business related education and degrees in university
· 10 years proven experience
· Advanced business development skills including negotiations; one of the company experts with crucial stakeholder management skills
· Proven leadership experience and management knowledge
· Performance driven and result orientated
· Experience and understanding of Asian business environment and culture
· Preferred industry experience
· Preferred Mandarin speaking
