Real Sector Statistics Advisor, PFTAC
The Statistics Department (STA) of the IMF, and the IMF's Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Center (PFTAC), are looking for a qualified candidate to fill a Real Sector Statistics Advisor (RSA) position based in Suva, Fiji. Working alongside another STA Real Sector Advisor, the Advisor will undertake technical assistance missions and manage statistical capacity building programs in the countries covered by PFTAC - Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. The Advisors' appointment term would be for an initial period of one year, with an expectation of an assignment of 3 years or more (subject to satisfactory performance).

Duties: The RSA will provide and oversee technical assistance in real sector statistics to the sixteen countries covered by PFTAC. These areas of work, which are included in the annual work plans endorsed by PFTAC's Steering Committee, include: (i) to manage and deliver technical assistance on statistical capacity building in national accounts, price indices and other real sector statistics; (ii) to facilitate activities carried out by, and promote interaction of, government agencies in the development of such macroeconomic statistics; (iii) to provide limited technical assistance in balance of payments statistics, as needed, to supplement support in this area from IMF headquarters; and (iii) to coordinate technical assistance activities with the relevant IMF Departments and, where appropriate, with other international institutions and bilateral agencies involved in technical assistance in statistics. He/she will work under the general direction of the Coordinator of PFTAC and the technical direction of STA at IMF headquarters. He/she should expect to travel extensively within the PFTAC region. The RSA will undertake technical assistance missions and provide training primarily in national accounts but also in other areas of real sector statistics and balance of payments statistics if needed. He/she may also be responsible for managing and backstopping missions by short-term experts, ensuring that the appropriate mission documentation is produced following STA's guidelines.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a university degree in a relevant discipline, an excellent knowledge and experience in compiling national accounts acquired in a national statistical office. Experience of working in developing economies and/or the Pacific would be an advantage. A good knowledge and experience in other macroeconomic statistics, particularly balance of payments, is desirable. The candidate should have strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a good command of the English language. Ability to coordinate technical assistance with the relevant IMF Departments and with other international institutions and bilateral agencies is essential.
