ActionAid Denmarks’ training department, Training for Change is looking for innovative and motivated Global Platform Managers’ to Global Platform in Kenya.

About Training for Change

We develop trainings for professionals in the NGO-field, youth from ActionAid’s global youth network Activista, Danish volunteers and for youth from ActionAid’s partner organizations in the global South. Every year, approximately 4000 volunteers and professionals are trained at our Training Centre, TCDC in Tanzania and Global Platforms in Nepal, El Salvador, Jordan, Myanmar, Kenya and Tanzania. New platforms in other countries are under development and expected to open in the near future. JOB DESCRIPTION

The position as Global Platform Manager will require 50-70 % of your working time. The remaining time you will be training and supporting the training activities at Global Platform.

The daily management of Global Platform Kenya will include:

· Strategy and Leadership, including a joint responsibility for developing long term strategies for Training for Change as well as detailed yearly plans for the trainings at Global Platform, responsibility for training curriculums and logistics, recruitment of and introduction for new staff members and weekly coordination with the Head of International Global Platform.

· Team and Global Platform coordination, including responsibility for weekly meetings with the Global Platform team, project meetings with each course team, meetings with external partners and guest speakers and practical responsibilities

· Training and course development, including responsibility for the development of terms of reference, training manuals, course scripts and detailed evaluations of each course, contributing to the development of Training for Change’s method and ensuring that all staff members are being challenged professionally and are familiar with new didactic approaches and methods

· PR, communication and recruitment, including advertising new trainings, and recruitment of participants, production of training catalogues and promoting courses via social media and online networks and developing and updating the webpage of Training of Change

· Economy and finance, including the responsibility for making the yearly budgets, monthly and continuous monitoring of the accounting as well as keeping track of the number of participants on the courses

Training

Training for Change has four general competences as a goal for our trainings. You are expected to contribute with qualified training within these core competences. Because the trainings are conducted by a team of trainers, you do not need to be an expert within all of these areas. However, you should be qualified within at least three of them. The areas are:

· ANALYSE – In depth knowledge about globalization, development politics, volunteerism and social movements

· ORGANISE – Knowledge about and experience with forms of organizing, leadership and facilitation

· COMMUNICATE – Experiences and skills within communication, especially new and creative media, such as video, web, graphic design, theatre etc.

· ACT – A central component in Training for Change’s training method is the courage to constantly make sure, that the knowledge and skills taught in the trainings are tested in real life, be it in small scale pilot projects or large scale campaigns.

YOUR PROFIILE

You have previous experience in project management, organization and administration. You are experienced with team coordination, and you have the desire and will to take a challenging and exciting job with a high degree of self-leadership and room for initiative.

You enjoy working in an energetic environment full of ideas, and you are able to focus and prioritize in a sometimes hectic every working life.

You are committed, responsible and open-minded and you are able to handle stressed situations

Furthermore we focus on skills within:

  • Experience with teaching and planning courses. Experience with participatory education and informal didactic methods are a must.
  • An excellent level of English (written and spoken).Applicants must be able to conduct the courses in English.
  • Knowledge of the regional politics, culture and challenges
  • Activism – Ability to support the activist milieu, e.g. supporting coordination and mobilization of Activista, ActionAid’s global youth network and conducting small workshops and courses for local youth.

Employment Conditions

· Expected start of contract:: 1st July 2012

· The contract period will be 24 months with the possibility of extension.

· Salary DKK 11.112,50 a month.

· In addition 12% of the amount put into a closed account for re-establishment at the end of contract.

· Accommodation on the platform or near the platform.

· Possibility for diets during the course period on the platform.

· A lump sum of dkk. 6.000 will be paid as a supplement to cover vaccinations, shipping of luggage etc.

· Health and travel insurance drawn by ActionAid Denmark.

· The position is a non-family position, which means that ActionAid Denmark does not offer spouse or children’s supplements. Furthermore, the accommodation on the platform is primarily meant for the trainer.
