Project Support for ESCAPE

Organ:
The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector of the Union (the Union has three functional sectors: Standardization, Radiocommunication and Development) which deals mainly with development policies, strategies, programming, as well as technical cooperation activities (expert missions, training programmes, field projects, seminars, etc.).
Organization Unit:
Within the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the ITU and in close collaboration with the Deputy to the Director and the ITU Regional Offices, the Infrastructure, Enabling Environment and E-Applications Department (IEE) is responsible for assisting ITU Member States and ITU-D Sector Members with the utilization of appropriate technologies to build or extend their telecommunication infrastructure and adapt to the rapidly changing telecommunication/ICT environment. This includes the provision of guidelines and tools for the development of policy and regulatory frameworks, financing policies and strategies, development of telecommunication networks, the use of reliable and cost-effective ICT applications, cybersecurity, broadcasting and spectrum management. The Department is also responsible for promoting access to, as well as use and knowledge of, telecommunications and ICTs for groups which have been marginalized in their access to current mainstream information communications technology services, including women and girls, children and youth, indigenous people, persons with disabilities and people living in remote communities. The Department is also responsible for making contribution to and following-up the work of ITU-D Study Groups for issues related to the responsibilities of the Department.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities of the Internship
  • Support in facilitating access by Member States to the ITU-IMPACT Global Response Centre (GRC), providing up-to-date content on current and emerging cyber threats to be uploaded to the collaborative part of the GRC (ESCAPE).
  • Schedule training sessions for Member States on the use of ITU IMPACT ESCAPE and coordinate the development with the focal point of the country.
  • Stimulate communication and discussion, within the platform, among focal points of different entities by injecting news and global trends on Cybersecurity.
  • Support the organization of ITU events, including meetings, trainings, workshops, webinars. This activity will include engaging with external partners to coordinate content, speakers, follow up actions and logistics before, during and after the event.
  • Qualifications required
    Education:
    University degree in telecommunications, ICTs, business administration, communications, or computer science. Other degrees may be considered providing that the candidate has taken additional courses on subjects related to ICTs.
    Experience:
    Experience in conducting research and preparing publications will be valued. Examples of texts, as well as a written assignment, will be requested during the interview process. Advance use of ICT tools and interest for the ICT sector will be valued during the selection process.
    Languages:
    Knowledge of English at advanced level. Knowledge of a second ITU official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) would be an advantage.
    Additional Information:
    Please note that a non remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same "conditions of employment" as a Short Term or Fixed Term position. Mandatory medical insurance as well as accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the Interns or sponsoring institutions, including travel expenses if any.
