ADVISER for the AFRICAN region
Job Description:
  • Responsible for the relationships with WSBI member banks in Africa. Manage and develop a strong and active regional group, maintain a regular and open communication with them and stimulate their contribution to joint activities in the region, and of WSBI in general
  • Organise Regional Group meetings, and other events when appropriate
  • Act as the member’s central contact person at WSBI and be responsible for referring the member to the most suitable department as appropriate
  • Identify opportunities and promote WSBI services (dissemination of strategic insights; representing interests towards various bodies on relevant international legal dossiers; business cooperation; payment processing and remittances projects; training & consultancy; networking opportunities) towards these members, in close cooperation with ESBG/WSBI content managers, based on a detailed, member-by-member marketing plan
  • Contributing to research activities in the retail banking field on European and/or international level
  • Monitor trends and evolutions in the financial and banking sector in Africa and identify opportunities to develop joint initiatives between the members
  • Play a coordinating role, mapping out WSBI’s relationship with each member and attempting to create leverage based on the success of particular service areas
  • Provide relevant market intelligence to members
  • Ensure the visibility of WSBI and of its members in Africa, and expand WSBI membership in the region
  • Develop a comprehensive network of contacts with relevant international/regional financial institutions, and promote cooperation initiatives to the benefit of WSBI members
  • Contribute regularly to ESBG/WSBI publications (newsletters, press-releases, specialized articles, website), write speeches, prepare presentations and produce concise reports for WSBI statutory meetings.
     
Required skills and competences:
  • Have a thorough understanding of the banking market in Africa as well as knowledge and affinity with African cultures and values
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience, ideally directly in financial services
  • The selected candidate will need to develop a broad understanding of WSBI’s services to members, which does not necessarily mean being an expert in these fields, but should at least develop sufficient understanding to be able to enter into meaningful dialogue
  • Be very customer oriented towards members and internal customers (content managers)
  • Total fluency in written and spoken English and French as well as proven analytical and drafting skills
  • The position will involve creative, innovative thinking and will demand perserverance; a great deal of determination is required
  • University Degree or equivalent
  • Ability to work in an international team
  • Relevant computer and presentation skills (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Access).
This position is based in Brussels with missions to the African region.
