Epicentre
Epicentre is an association created by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) whose mission consists of conducting studies intended to enhance the medical treatment provided in the MSF intervention programmes. For a complete description of the structure see: www.epicentre.msf.org.
Mission
The postholder will manage the operations and development of the Epicentre Clinical Research Department. The postholder will answer to the Managing Director. The main objective of the Clinical Research Department is to analyse new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, in particular in the field of infectious diseases. As well as running the work of his/her own department, the postholder may also be involved in initiating research projects laterally with the other Epicentre departments. The postholder will establish on-going working relations with the Operations Department, the Medical Department as well as with Managers of programmes in the MSF operational centres.
Main responsibilities
• To ensure the implementation and scientific quality of the work carried out.
• To administer and run the department and to define annual work objectives that are cohesive with the general objectives of Epicentre and of sections of MSF.
• To draw up, review and justify the department’s budget.
• To take part in scientific and medical exchanges in the internal and external networks of MSF.
• As a member of the Epicentre Management Committee, to take part in the strategic decisions concerning the development of Epicentre and, in this context, to take part in the general development of the MSF movement.
Required expertise
• International training in epidemiology
• Experience in research and running projects in developing countries
• Experience in the running and publication of scientific work and in fields similar to those of Epicentre
• Experience in team management
• If possible a knowledge of Médecins Sans Frontières
• A good knowledge of the landscape of those involved in scientific work at international level
• Maturity and acceptance of the responsibilities involved in this post, and the ability effectively to represent the Epicentre organisation
• The ability to manage and lead a team and to encourage new ideas
• The capacity to communicate orally and in writing, and to supervise this kind of communication
• Fluent French and English
• The willingness to be committed to the life of an organisation in a position of responsibility for the Management of Epicentre
Conditions
Post based in Paris, with frequent travel. Permanent contract, full-time from January 2013 (probationary period of 4 months). For candidates originating from a public administration role there may be the possibility of secondment. Remuneration: 65503.75 euros per annum for a 13 month year, gross.

Mission
Le (la) titulaire du poste sera le (la) responsable du fonctionnement et du développement du Département de Recherche Clinique d’Epicentre. Il (elle) sera placé(e) sous l’autorité du Directeur Général. Le département de Recherche Clinique a pour objectif principal d’étudier de nouvelles approches diagnostiques et thérapeutiques notamment dans le domaine des maladies infectieuses. A côté de la conduite des travaux dans son propre département, le (la) titulaire pourra être amené(e) à initier des projets de recherche en transversalité avec les autres départements d’Epicentre. Le (la) titulaire établira des relations de travail suivies avec la Direction des Opérations, la Direction Médicale et les Responsables de Programmes des centres opérationnels de MSF.
Principales responsabilités
• Garantir la réalisation et la qualité scientifique des travaux produits.
• Animer le département et en définir des objectifs annuels de travail en cohérence avec les objectifs généraux d’Epicentre et des sections de MSF.
• Constituer, réviser et défendre le budget du département.
• Participer aux échanges scientifiques et médicaux dans les réseaux internes et externes de MSF.
• En tant que membre du Comité de Direction d’Epicentre, participer aux décisions d’orientation sur l’évolution d’Epicentre et, à ce titre, participer à l’évolution générale du mouvement MSF.
Compétences requises
• Formation internationale en épidémiologie
• Expérience de la recherche et de la conduite de projets dans les pays en voie de développement
• Expérience de conduite et publication de travaux scientifiques dans des champs proches de ceux d’Epicentre
• Expérience dans la direction d’équipes
• Connaissance si possible de Médecins Sans Frontières
• Forte connaissance du paysage et des acteurs scientifiques internationaux
• Maturité par rapport aux responsabilités qui incombent à ce poste et capacité à bien représenter l’organisation Epicentre
• Capacité à animer une équipe et à impulser de nouvelles idées
• Capacité à communiquer oralement et par écrit, et à superviser ce type de communication
• Français et anglais courants
• Volontaire pour s’engager dans la vie d’une association à un poste de responsabilité auprès de la Direction d’Epicentre
Conditions
Poste basé à Paris avec des déplacements fréquents. Contrat à durée indéterminée à temps plein à partir de janvier 2013 (période d’essai de 4 mois). Pour les candidat(e)s issu(e)s de la fonction publique possibilité de détachement. Rémunération : 65503.75 Euros bruts annuels sur 13 mois.
