Programme Management Accountant - : Central London

Permanent, Full-Time role

The Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) is dedicated to supporting the development of democratic systems of government. Its focus is sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, the Balkans, Eastern Europe and increasing Asia. The foundation is sponsored by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and works to strengthen the institutions of democracy. It does this primarily by supporting the development of parliaments, political party structures and civil society organisations. It is uniquely placed to draw on the expertise of the Westminster political parties in all its work.

Established in 1992, WFD this year celebrates its 20th anniversary – a year in which it’s set to greatly increase its role and impact as a world leader in supporting the development of democracy.

The need for an additional Management Accountant to focus on programme accounting has been triggered by the new corporate strategy and increased funding from FCO and DFID of £16.5 million over the 3 years 2012-2015. In addition, WFD has secured third-party funding that will result in average total income of £8 million per annum from 2012-13. The substantial increase in funding and the expansion of WFD’s work will require greater financial management throughout WFD both for the increased number of programmes, higher levels of spend in some countries and the expansion of the overseas network.

This new role sits within the Finance Team which is led by the Director of Finance & Company Secretary and currently includes a Senior Management Accountant and an Accounts Assistant/IT Officer. We are looking for a qualified, experienced financial accountant who is a confident self-starter, and who is willing and able to challenge conventional wisdom. Opportunities for some overseas travel are likely.

You will have:

· Relevant accountancy qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) qualified/recently-qualified

· Experience of budgetary and cost control and management reporting in an international organisation involved in multi-projects and programmes

· Experience of delivering timely, accurate, clear and concise reporting and risk analysis

· Advanced experience of financial systems and skills in key financial applications e.g. SAGE, Oracle, MS Excel
