Role and Responsibilities:

Strategy and Implementation

• Develop objectives and implement impact assessment strategy for TOMS Giving (footwear, sight-giving)
• Determine and prioritize areas of focus for rigorous assessment of impact (e.g., health, education, the well-being of children, economic impact in countries and communities in which TOMS gives). Validate with internal and external stakeholders
• Determine measuring and evaluation needs for TOMS Giving; develop plan and execute
- Gain in-depth understanding of existing data (secondary and within TOMS)
- Determine set of priority outcomes and endpoints needed to fill gap
- Develop and implement study programs to produce high-credibility results over the short, medium and long term that validate the role of footwear in health, education and the well-being of children. Balance short term and long-term studies based on overall Giving strategy and objectives.
• Develop budget for impact assessment and present cost/benefit tradeoffs associated with recommended investment
• Research and remain abreast of equivalent studies in parallel vectors, ensuring that TOMS is aware of evolving standards and specific referenced impact studies in NTDs, footborne diseases, sight interventions and other related arenas
Strategic Relationship Building
• Identify and prioritize key stakeholder groups both internally and externally
- Develop a segmentation of messages and data needs
- Assess and factor into the relationship plan addressing both potential areas of opportunity and risk
• Build relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., academia, NGOs, think tanks) to gather input and validate credibility of proposed impact measurement programs – customized to various audiences (academia, international development community, media, retailers, customers, etc.)
• Select and forge TOMS relationships with high-credibility partners to conduct research and data collection (academia, NGOs, government entities, etc.)
• Form close relationship with Communication Department at TOMS to collaboratively set priorities for messaging about TOMS Giving impact, collect and QA both TOMS-sponsored and 3rd-party research findings that help build the case for impact of shoes and sight-giving; support compelling dissemination of impact messages (internal and external).
• Develop close partnership with TOMS Giving regional account teams (including account management and partnership development teams) to conduct studies that not only result in important impact findings but also strengthen relationships and benefits from partnering with TOMS
• Project Management & Leveraging Results
• Guide and support development of study goals, protocols and timelines
• Provide oversight of study implementation and reporting
• Generate relevant insights from data for TOMS Giving and corporate purposes
• Working closely with Communications Team, develop plan for evangelizing results of studies with target audiences outside TOMS retail target audiences, in order to achieve desired outcomes
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Strong experience in international development project M&E – including study design and analysis (required)
• Subject matter experience in health, education, economic impact assessment preferred
• Familiarity with vocabulary, leading players and constructs of global health and development
• Strong project management skills
• Existing partnership network within M&E community and global health, education and economic impact stakeholder communities (target consumers of information)
• Ability to compellingly communicate impact results to a lay-audience; ability to support development of appropriate messaging of study outcomes
• Ability to effectively execute M&E function in a lean, informal corporate (non-academic, non-NGO, non-government) environment
• Strong communication and partner relationship-building skills
• Lead small team (over time)
• Graduate degree (MPH, social sciences, international studies, statistics or equivalent) preferred
• 5-8 years of postgraduate work experience in NGO, government and/or corporation or private foundation environments
• Developing country experience (on-ground, living or project based), with focus on Latin America, Africa, and Asia
• Able and willing to travel to remote Giving Partner sites under challenging intellectual, emotional and physical circumstances
• Culturally sensitive
• Ability to speak non-English language(s) a plus, if other qualifications are met
• Willingness to work in a young, dynamic and entrepreneurial work environment
