European Chemical Industry Council Head Statistical Service

Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, is both the forum and voice of the European chemical industry. It aims to maintain and develop a prosperous chemical industry in Europe by promoting the best possible economic, social and environmental conditions to bring benefits to society.

Cefic is located in Brussels and employs more than 160 people. Cefic represents the European chemical industry vis-à-vis the EU Institutions and involves its member federations and companies in European advocacy.

The Cefic statistical service is part of the Industrial Policy programme. It acts like a trustee company for some 60 Cefic sector groups and related chemical associations or for research consortia, and compiles on an annual basis hundreds of statistical reports in full compliance with the requirements of EC antitrust laws.
He/she will lead a team of three data processing officers and have the following responsibilities:
  • Collect and process company data regarding production, sales, end-uses etc. in compliance with EC antitrust statistical rules;
  • Identify/solve inconsistencies in data input;
  • Inform the product manager about problems and propose possible improvements to the statistical output;
  • Ensure overall planning of data processing activities generated by recurrent and specific requests;
  • Ensure the training of new people; control of quality and timing of execution;
  • Evaluate workload and determine possible needs for people, equipment and training;
  • Ensure that costs of provided services are charged back to appropriate cost centres;
  • Deal directly with customers in order to ensure their requests are fully understood and their expectations met;
  • Promote service to potential new customers;
  • Provide support to people: manage, develop and motivate the team, ensuring that they are equipped to deliver team and individual objectives.

Background and experience

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent education;
  • Strong background in statistics or data processing related discipline;
  • Basic understanding of the competition rules of the EU.

Skills & competencies

  • Good understanding of English and French, other languages are an asset;
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel and related tools such as Visual Basic, Pivot-tables,…;
  • Service-minded attitude, excellent administrative and organizational skills;
  • Good presentation skills.
