Fleet Garage Maintenance Program Coordinator (MPC)

The Maintenance Program Coordinator (MPC) is a Non-Exempt first line management position reporting to the Supervisor/Manager of the department. The MPC exemplifies a high level of professionalism in everything they do, is diplomatic, positive and works to understand and solve problems applying creative solutions. 

The MPC coordinates and assigns technicians and external resources to meet the program/project schedules. The MPC owns the assigned project/program and is responsible to deliver it on the designated schedule and at the estimated cost. The MPC is expected to exercise good judgment on decisions regarding quality and quantity of work. The MPC provides guidance, motivation and acknowledgement of work completed. The MPC has spending authority for routine needs and expenditure authorization up to the maximum amount approved on the assigned work order. As the steward of the program, the MPC makes repair/replace decisions, if applicable. 

The MPC sets expectations for completion dates, costs, quality and service and monitors to ensure compliance. The MPC is responsible for reviewing and monitoring performance related issues of the technicians and addressing them in a constructive, supportive manner. Should coaching and mentoring prove to be ineffective, the MPC will work with the supervisor/manager to apply corrective action or discipline as required. The MPC performs hands on work and is targeted to bill at 70%. Overtime is required as needed to meet the schedules of the assigned program/project. 

The primary duties of this position may or may not include all of the following: 
* Maintenance Programs: 
o Manage the shop QR and PM workload; assign and explain work followed by inspection 
o Manage existing maintenance programs; Fleet maintenance, reactive work, generator servicing.
o Create or modify, document and implement maintenance initiatives and program enhancements.
o Develop and execute a quality assurance program to ensure work meets department standards 
o Produce program reports including scans, readings, deficiencies with corrective action plans and timelines 
o Develop specific safety plans for each maintenance program
o Develop training programs that compliment these initiatives and projects 
o Maintain and audit program SOP’s, create new SOP’s as required 
o Scope, estimate and execute reactive repairs
o Determine project schedules based on priority, workload and availability of technicians 
o Manage incoming service requests completely 
o Provide in-field leadership for the technicians/leads
o Track progress, schedule and costs of each project routinely 
o Inspect work to ensure completed scope and high quality work, routinely provide feedback to technician on work performance 
o Communicate frequently the status of each project/program to the team and customer 
o Develop specific safety plans for each maintenance operation
o Develop training programs that compliment these initiatives and projects 
* Ensure all change orders are scoped, estimated and approved by customer prior to start of work 

The MPC is required to wear a modified uniform. 

Working hours to be established with the supervisor and are based operational needs. 

Qualifications: 
The MPC is a senior level technician who has completed a formal training program and at least eight to ten years of working experience, and has a proven track record within the Fleet Maintenance field. They have a demonstrated history of leadership in an automotive environment, an understanding of the challenges of working with customer’s expectations and can motivate employees to meet quality and quantity standards. They possess an in depth understanding of the principles and theories of the automotive industry. 

They have the ability to read and comprehend schematics, automotive maintenance manuals and procedures. The MPC has demonstrated journeyman/foreman level skills and an in-depth working knowledge of their trade and related vehicle maintenance practices. They have the ability to develop, plan, organize and carry out automotive maintenance programs while continuously monitoring the effectiveness of the program. They have the ability to work under pressure, with limited guidance, to complete programs on time and within the allocated budget. 

The MPC works independently to make decisions regarding quality of work, code compliance where applicable and safety to ensure project success. The MPC has excellent communications skills, thinks logically and is able to work quickly with purpose. 

The MPC is skilled in the tasks they direct and has the ability to solve technical problems that may arise. They can develop and nurture good working relationships with a diverse group of employees. They are able to follow written and verbal directions and communicate those instructions to others. They are well versed in environmental and safety rules, regulations and policies and conduct job site inspections to ensure compliance. 

Employee’s in this classification are required to possess and maintain a HazMat endorsement ,Class B, Tanker and air brake endorsement in addition to a valid California Drivers License as required based on vehicles operated within the department. Employees in this classification must also be able to acquire & maintain licensing or certification in the repair & installation of air brakes and anti – lock braking systems
