This is a one-year temporary position. Telework is available and use of e-technology is encouraged for meeting participation. The successful applicant will be paid on a fixed price basis for each deliverable (i.e. each grant application). The amount paid will not exceed $100,000 per year.  It is important to note UMB will only pay for travel it mandates. Travel to regular meetings will not be covered by UMB. The candidate must have the ability to travel nationally and internationally, when required, in support of this effort.  

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) seeks a Grant Writer to work with its office of Global Health Initiatives (GHI). GHI directs a wide-ranging portfolio of global health (medical, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry), legal, social work and gender specific activities both internationally and on campus for faculty and students conducting research, technical assistance and education activities in the US and internationally. The candidate for this position will identify and pursue funding sources taking the lead writing specific global and international targeted grant applications as well as coordinating faculty and student efforts in the preparation of grant applications that have a global and/or international focus.  These efforts will include writing, editing and professional review for technical compliance, budget alignment, and monitoring and evaluation plans. Additionally, the incumbent will provide grant writing support to international organizations supported and/or identified by UMB.

Essential Functions:
-Identifies and/or responds to funding opportunities that support the global strategic vision of the University.  
-Responsible for proposal writing for global and international focused applications in conjunction with the proposed Project Director and/or Principal Investigator.
-Creates marketing material for OGHI and its partners for printed material and web publication. 
-Creates calendar of activities needed for grant compliance in pre and post award activities.
-Liaises with Principal Investigator(s) and/or Program staff.
-Upon receipt of technical/budget component(s): ensures compliance of submissions by completing grant application and supporting documents in response to applications (technical, budget alignment, monitoring and evaluation plan, close-out plan when required, etc.).
-Monitors pre-award requests from funding sources, coordinates prompt and well-written responses.
-If required, supervise other consultants hired by UMB for grant application development.
-Through coordinating efforts of faculty in all schools, responds to multidisciplinary global grant opportunities.
-Assures grant applications comply with all sponsor, federal and state requirements.
-Assists in the continued development of the University’s Global Strategic Plan in accordance with UMB priorities, and 
-Represents the office of GHI at forums within the university, nationally and internationally.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Master’s degree in any of the following: Business Administration, Public Health, Public Policy or an equivalent.
-At least seven (7) years of experience in international business development.
-Strong and verifiable grant writing, writing and editorial competence.

Credit history review and financial disclosure may be required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
The candidate must have a proven track record in successfully securing funding as a result of the candidate’s grant writing expertise and experience in the areas of health and social sciences as well as be able to coordinate efforts across multiple disciplines. Further, the candidate must have an ability to identify new funding sources for special programs. The candidate must possess excellent grant writing and computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.; Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, IM, etc.)  The candidate must be highly organized, able to work under pressure to produce high quality work products under tight time frames, function independently and have exceptional interpersonal skills. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop full grant applications (technical, budget, monitoring and evaluation plans, close-out, pre and post award compliance activity calendars). A working knowledge of NIH, CDC, USAID, and other global funders is preferred.  The candidate must have the ability to analyze trends and recommend and/or institute “best practices” to improve on-going activities and priorities.
