Postdoctoral position on MBE growth of II-VI materials

A post-doctor position in Molecular Beam Epitaxy is available within the research project ’Advanced Cr2+-doped II-VI materials for medical lasers at the Department of Physics. The appointment has duration of up to 3 years. The position is financed by the Norwegian Research Council.

The position is based in the Department of Physics. Currently, there are 26 professors, 10 associate professors, 6 adjunct professors, 75 PhD research fellows and 25 postdoctoral positions appointed at the Department of Physics.

Current research at the Department includes optics, energy and environmental physics, didactic physics, biophysics and medical technology, condensed matter physics, surface science, nanotechnology and theoretical physics. Further information is available at:http://www.ntnu.no/fysikk/english

The successful applicant is highly competent, motivated and ambitious, with excellent communication skills and fluency in either English or a Scandinavian language. The candidate should have a PhD in physics, chemistry or materials science, with extensive practical experience in molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) or ultra-high vacuum growth of materials. Direct work in semiconductor growth (particularly II-VI materials) and characterization would be an advantage. We are looking for an independent person with initiative, who works well both alone and with others. The Post doc position has good opportunities to be an active partner in the international research community participation in conferences, summer school and collaboration with internationally renowned universities and research labs in the field. The candidate will assist in guidance of PhD students, and a successful applicant desiring to obtain some teaching experience may do so.

The project involves an international collaboration on the growth, optical characterization and development of transition metal doped II-VI semiconductor lasers. The objective of this part of the project is to obtain a more fundamental understanding of the role of pairs and clusters in co-doped materials. Close collaboration with other groups will connect the growth effort to modeling and applications.

Research will be carried out within a multidisciplinary environment, and the post doctor will work as a key member of the project team. The work will be performed in the Optical Thin Films laboratory at NTNU, centered around a new Mantis Deposition MBE system and in collaboration with the Optical Fiber group’s new fiber-drawing tower. NTNU has extensive facilities for sample preparation and analysis, including the NanoLab, the TEM Gemini center, X-ray and surface characterization facilities.

The appointment of the post doctor fellow will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees. The national labour force should reflect the composition of the population to the greatest possible extent, and thus women are especially encouraged to apply.

The position is remunerated according to theNorwegianStatesalary scale. Post doctor associates are remunerated in salary code 1352, normally at wage level 57 on the Norwegian Government pay scale, gross NOK 468 400. per year before tax. There is 2% pension deduction.
