Research Coordinator American Institutes for Research Bangalore, India

Headquartered in Washington, DC, AIR is recruiting candidates for a Research Coordinator position to be based in India. 

Job Responsibilities 
This position is for a Bangalore-based coordinator for the USAID-funded Facilitating Reading Acquisition in Multilingual Environments (FRAME) research project. The project will be conducted in 6 school sites across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, but will be based in Bangalore. It will include the development of testing materials, data collection from approximately 600 children across South India, data entry, and coordination of workshops and other meetings in India. The research coordinator will be responsible for traveling to all 6 sites during data collection, which will occur for a period of 1 month each 3 times in the 2-year period of the project; facilitating all activities from India; and sharing information with AIR headquarters in a timely and efficient manner. 
In particular, the research coordinator will:
-    Collaborate closely with the project manager , financial assistance, and research assistance at AIR headquarters for all research efforts in India
-    Liaise with the local NGO, government officials, education officials, and schools and students. 
-    Manage and supervise all the data collection activities
-    Help recruit approximately 20 data collectors or help identify a data collection agency or university sub-contractor, who will in turn recruit the data collectors
-    Manage and supervise all data collectors by traveling to the six schools and overseeing data collection activities 
-     to go out to each of the six schools to collect reading and education data
-    Act as a signatory for bank accounts 
-    Maintain up-to-date records of all field office budgets
-    Work with the project manager, financial assistants, and research assistants at HQ to identify problems and propose solutions related to operational systems and working relationships 
-    Perform other duties, as required 

Qualifications
-    University degree, preferably advanced 
-    Have extensive expertise in project management that includes significant ability to work independently and carry out project tasks under varying circumstances
-    Have experience with and understanding of systems, policies and processes of the Indian Government, and ability to liaise productively with various departments and ministries
-    Be able to work in a cross-cultural setting, negotiate diplomatically and function well under pressure
-    Have knowledge of international and local organizations operating in India
-    Experience with lower income communities in India 
-    Be able and willing to travel within India 
-    Native or near-native proficiency in English; strong skills in Kannada and/or Telugu; some reading and writing knowledge in Kannada and/or Telugu a plus
