TRAVEL SECURITY MANAGER in Washington, DC


We are currently searching for a Travel Security Manager to work in our office located in Washington, D.C. to manage a team of analysts preparing travel security information, analysis and advice for publication.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • The team’s timely production of travel security Updates and Special Advisories across an 8-hour day
  • Ensure that incident-specific travel advice is relevant and well written
  • Prepare Change of Shift and internal reporting schedules documents
  • Direct reporting priorities and allocation of resources within the team
  • Ensure personal development plans are in place for all analysts within the team
  • Conduct monthly one-to-one meetings with team members to provide feedback, improve written content and aid personal development
  • Oversee and supervise the scanning and report writing of analysts
  • Ensure team knowledge and implementation of Information & Analysis procedures and protocols
  • Monitor and research travel security developments globally
  • Scan online news and other sources for reportable travel security incidents and information relevant to country backgrounds
  • Contribute to development of new editorial strands and training materials
  • Master basic multi-media skills to ensure reports are supported by maps, photographs or other visual/audio elements
  • Prepare ‘rolling briefs’ on developing security incidents in times of crises to support internal stakeholders
  • Keep abreast of key conflicts and security trends with implications for travelers and expatriates
  • Conduct a first edit of the output of all team members, ensuring accuracy and readability of copy; adherence to house style; grammar and spelling are correct; and that the analysis and advice is relevant Conduct a first edit of the output of all team members, ensuring accuracy and readability of copy; adherence to house style; grammar and spelling are correct; and that the analysis and advice is relevant for clients
  • Draft Special Advisories for major travel security developments. Draft Updates in between editing or when team is short-staffed
  • Proactively approach parent company contacts and external sources  for information and insight to enhance content of reports

Qualifications


  • Bachelors Degree education from a reputable university in political science, international relations, journalism or related subject.  Master’s degree preferred
  • 3+ years experience working in a journalistic, international relations or intelligence analysis field.  Experience of writing for a business audience preferred
  • Significant editorial management experience
  • Good understanding of the priorities and requirements of corporate travelers and expatriates, and how travel security issues affect them
  • Understanding of key global conflicts and their impact on travelers and expatriates
  • Foreign travel to non-native continent.  Experience of living or working abroad preferred
  • Good knowledge of global geography
  • Passion for international relations and current affairs
  • Excellent online research skills
  • Strong editing, analytical, writing and reporting skills
  • Strong  news/information-gathering and communications skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks to tight deadlines
  • Competent people manager; able to inspire team members
  • Good time and resource management
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications
  • Fluency in written and oral English.  Proficiency in one or more foreign language preferred
  • Ability to motivate and inspire team members
  • High levels of initiative and personal drive to progress work and take on additional tasks as required
  • Good problem-solving  and lateral thinking capabilities
  • Ability to work accurately to tight deadlines
