Website Editor

The Website Editor will be responsible for the development, curation and maintenance of content and will work with staff and partners to publish news and stories for the organization’s websites and social networks. In addition to writing and editing content, he/she will oversee the Social Media Editor and work closely with the US Deputy Director, New Media and Online Campaign Managers. He/she will be responsible for maintaining and monitoring our analytics account and testing copy for SEO effectiveness. The Website Editor will maintain all content calendars, keep landing pages and campaign pages up to date, and research and gather materials for content series and news-worthy topics related to ONE’s issues and advocacy efforts.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create, develop and manage content for ONE’s digital presence (requires working with content management software and a basic understanding of HTML)
  • Procure and curate content from our 100+ partner organizations as well as relevant news from the press.
  • Coordinate and manage interdepartmental content strategies based on campaign objectives and help develop campaign narratives
  • Work closely with Social Media Editor to innovate new social media strategies
  • Work with designers to prepare and publish imagery for the site Write and publish digital content in support of campaigns
  • Work with partner organizations to develop and/or curate topical and timely content for our issues
  • Work across departments to maintain and develop the master content calendar for all web properties
  • Curate, copyedit and proofread all web content
  • Assist the New Media Department on large-scale initiatives, as needed
  • Understanding of ActionKit or other advocacy CRM a big plus
 SPECIFIC TYPES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years’ experience working in internet-based publishing as a writer and/or a content traffic manager; journalism background a plus
  • Experience managing and directing staff members and also a proven motivator and developer of people
  • Ability to exercise significant judgment in managing risk
  • Proven decision-making ability and critical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate effectively across departments for the overall mission of ONE
  • Ability to identify new opportunities for ONE’s growing media presence
  • Ability to create and manage long-term editorial and marketing calendars
  • Superior writing and editing skills
  • Must be pro-active and self-starter
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to produce under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team-based, collaborative environment
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and comfort with internet-based applications
  • Comprehensive understanding of social media including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Google +, LinkedIn and Pinterest
  • Proficiency in web and graphics publishing tools (i.e. Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator)
  • A record for being reliable, utilizing sound judgment and responding well to adversity
  • Knowledge of international development issues a plus
  • Fluency in German and French is a plus
