Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Information Technology Operations Unit (ITOU) of Information Management Systems Service of the UNJSPF. The Information Systems Assistant reports to Platform Services Manager within the ITOU.
Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of the Platform Services Manager, the incumbent performs following functions:
1.Web Master duties: Acts as the Pension Fund webmaster by responding to user mails; supports content editing and update; monitors the Pension Fund website to ensure the 24x7 availability to the users; performs other related duties as required;
2. Middleware Administration Assistant: Acts as a research and development assistant for upgrading applications within the Windows OS such as Windows Server 2008 suite of products and Windows 7 suite of products, middleware systems such as webservers (Apache and Websphere), IBM Notes/Domino and messaging and collaboration suite of products.
3. Desktop Administration and Configuration: Performs 2nd level troubleshooting of systems, productivity applications and peripherals; performs software distribution updates, testing and support; Serves as team member in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and support of computer application systems; independently liaises with users to define and specify requirements; Installs computer application systems software and hardware according to specifications; Monitors computer applications systems using appropriate monitoring tools and produces monitoring reports.
4. Operational Support and Analysis: Prepares technical and user documentation for deployed computer application systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations; Maintains functional specifications for computer application systems, programs and procedures developed and/or modified; Provides support for deployed computer application systems including version management, data recovery and deployment to users' offices; Performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to users requests; Serves as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of computer application systems development projects, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units to initiate requests; Prepares standard terms of reference; Processes and follows-up on administrative actions and resolves issues related to project implementation, e.g. organization of and participation in training, procurement of equipment and services, etc.,; Keeps abreast of developments in the field; Performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions. Addresses escalated problems and monitor to resolutions; provide guidance and training to junior staff.
5. Perform other duties as required.

Education
  • High school or equivalent diploma. Post-secondary education and training in the IT field is desirable.
Work Experience
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required.
  • Experience in website design, content management and 2nd level systems support is required.
  • Experience with applications within Windows OS, Apache, WebSphere, IBM Notes/Domino and messaging and collaboration suite of products is desirable.
  • Experience with HTML, JSP, Flash, Photoshop and Dreamweaver is desirable.
  • Experience in multi-media content creation and Mac OS is desirable.
Languages
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

  • Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
