Junior Policy Officer (Ecodesign)

ECOS, the European Environmental Citizens’ Organisation for Standardisation is a non-profit umbrella organisation working to defend the environmental interests in standards and in the implementation process of the EU Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Directives. We represent 31 member organisations, including 7 Brussels-based umbrella organisations (e.g. WWF, EEB, FoEE) and 24 national organisations. More info at:www.ecostandard.org.

The position will require:

  • Coordinating and channelling ECOS’ input into the implementation of the EU Ecodesign for Energy-related Products Directive and the Energy Labelling Directive, including the Ecodesign Working Plan, preparatory studies and Consultation Forum meetings for specific product groups;
  • Representing ECOS in technical meetings, in particular the Ecodesign stakeholder and Consultation Forum meetings organised by the European commission, and in conferences;
  • Selecting and managing technical experts to assist ECOS on these topics;
  • Analysing documents of a technical nature and drafting policy positions in layman terms;
  • Communication to ECOS members ,other interested environmental NGOs and a variety of stakeholders;
  • Collaborating with member organisations and other consumer and environmental NGOs at national and European level;
  • Regularly updating the ECOS website and other media;
  • Providing scientific support to other colleagues in area(s) of expertise;
  • Support ECOS Senior Policy Officer in drafting funding applications, reporting to funders and undertaking related administrative work.

The main skills and competences we are looking for include:

  • University degree in engineering and/or environmental sciences (ESSENTIAL);
  • At least two years’ experience working with environmental policy, standardisation;
  • Very good command of English; other languages an asset;
  • Knowledge and/or experience in European affairs and/or standardisation;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills including ability to translate technical issues into digestible information;
  • Excellent time and project management, forward planning and prioritisation skills;
  • Affinity to NGO-work and/or environmental issues;
  • Good organisational and IT skills, good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new issues, proactive attitude, self-motivation.
The position is full-time under Belgian law, with an open-ended contract subject to a six-month probationary period. We offer a competitive salary and an additional benefits package.
