Senior Commercial Manager Latin America

Function Description

The Senior Commercial Manager will have full commercial responsibility for the scope of a marine project in Latin America which consists of dredging, reclamation, quay wall, pavement buildings and utilities. This position will report to the Project Director. Initially, during the preparation stage, the Senior Commercial Manager will be based in Gouda, the Netherlands (6 months) before relocating to the project site in Latin America.

As Senior Commercial Manager you will advise and support the Project Director ensuring rights, risks, contracts and internal costs are managed properly and that opportunities are maximized and meet company expectations in respect of sound commercial mangement of current/future projects.
Your main tasks and accountabilities will be:
• Maintaining effective communication with the project board, project management, contract management and other relevant discipline’s
• Safeguarding rights, managing risks; ensuring contractual and commercial correspondence, submission of variations, valuation and claims are addressed to meet the requirements of contract
• Supporting the Project Director in subcontract negotiations, agreeing terms and contractual conditions
• Leading procurement processes to ensure delivery within budget and time frames
• Preparing cost reports and advise of actions required to address discrepancies between budget and cost maximising revenue, reducing costs
• Ensuring timely production and presentation of adequate levels of applications for payment
• Building and managing project commercial teams

Job Requirements

As a Senior Commercial Manager you have the following qualifications and competencies:
• Degree at BSc. level in Quantity Surveying or other relevant subject
• At least 12 years commercial/QS experience with a contractor, preferably within civil and /or marine works. Experience with a consultant is advantageous
• Good commercial and financial knowledge at project and corporate/regional level
• Experience in working in Joint Ventures and/or Consortiums
• Good knowledge of various forms of contracts, estimation and cost-control processes
• Strong communicator; has presence and maturity; calm and tactful
• Takes a helicopter view, but also able to go into detail if necessary
• Proactive, result driven and pragmatic; takes initiative in resolving issues
• International experience, particularly in Spanish speaking countries is highly advantageous
• Flexibility and desire to work in remote locations
