Transportation Coordinator

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced and results-oriented Transportation Coordinator to manage the full fleet of CIMMYT vehicles globally, under the Corporate Services Program. Selected candidate will be responsible for all the managerial aspects of the operation of the CIMMYT
transportation system, including the maintenance and repair of CIMMYT vehicles as required.

The position is based at CIMMYT’s Main Campus (located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, Mexico).

Specific responsibilities of this position:

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the operation of vehicle maintenance and repair programs.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the CIMMYT transportation system.
  • Ensure safe and reliable vehicles are available to meet operational requirements.
  • Prepare and direct in-service training programs for newly-employed personnel.
  • Review, with the procurement area, purchase requests for new and replacement vehicles.
  • Prepare short and long range plans for transportation system operation including routing and scheduling.
  • Prepare monthly activity reports of the area to keep the immediate supervisor informed.
  • Ensure vehicle management systems are effectively utilized.
  • Maintain relationships with authorized dealers and authorized repair centers.
  • Plan and administer a preventive maintenance and vehicular replacement program.
  • Receive and process vehicle accident and damage reports.
  • Prepare cost analysis and periodic management and operational reports.
  • Notify staff regarding timing of scheduled maintenance and inspections.
  • Ensure all vehicles are equipped with required safety equipment.
  • Ensure all drivers meet and comply with CIMMYT requirements for operating any CIMMYT vehicle.
  • Provide input into hiring, termination, compensation, discipline, and promotion decisions.
  • Meet all financial review dates and corporate directed programs in a timely fashion. Assists in budget process as required.
  • Provide training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
  • Update and submit required reports in a timely manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications, skills and attitudes:

  • Bachelor´s degree in Administration or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a similar position.
  • Excellent knowledge of transportation system management and operations.
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles and practices of vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles of administration and organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, service providers, visitors and the general public.
  • Advanced level of English.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office and Internet.
  • Strong communications and problem-solving skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure, with high accuracy.
  • Ability to work with different nationalities, and as a member of a multidisciplinary and diverse work team.
