Girls Not Brides has an exciting new opening for a communications intern to join the Girls Not BridesCommunications Team. The Communications Team works to amplify the collective voice of Girls Not Brides and inform the debate on child marriage by giving visibility to the issue, approaches to address it, and reporting on the latest developments around the world.
This is an excellent opportunity for a talented individual looking to gain communications and PR experience with a non-governmental organisation and be part of the growth of an exciting initiative.
Accountability: Head of Communications
Main responsibilities and tasks will include:
  • Media monitoring, logging and assisting with preparation of media reports and press releases
  • Drafting internal and external media coverage newsletters
  • Assisting with media contact list management
  • Supporting Girls Not Brides’ social media channels by creating compelling content and managing a large and diverse online community
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Girls Not Brides website
  • Contribute to and build email newsletters
  • Monitoring and responding to messages from supporters
  • Contributing to communications strategies and projects around particular initiatives and events
  • Assisting with organisational support to the communications team
  • Contributing to the broader strategic, programmatic and communications work of Girls Not Brides
  • Desk research as required.
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and skills:
  • Educated to degree level. Any further qualification in communications and external relations is desirable
  • Relevant professional communications experience, possibly engaging with non-governmental or civil society organisations
  • Excellent written English skills and ability to write for different audiences, including online
  • Some knowledge or experience of using social media to advance a social issue or campaign
  • Understanding of how digital technology can support and enhance internal and external communications, advocacy and others
  • Accuracy and an eye for detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to interact with people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency in the latest versions of Microsoft Office
  • Some experience using social media tools, email marketing tools (MailChimp preferable), content management systems (WordPress preferable), and experience using media tools such as Vuelio or Meltwater news, Delicious, and use of databases (Salesforce) are highly desirable.
Eligibility criteria and terms
The internship will be offered for a period of up to six months on a minimum four days a week basis. Internship allowance will be based on the national living wage for London and paid on a monthly basis. Non-EU candidates must have a visa that allows placement in the UK.
