Position Description
Joule Assets acts as market expert and manager of the Joule ERA fund, a private investment fund designed to invest into Energy Reduction Assets, such as energy efficiency and demand response, across Europe and North America. Joule Assets combines its market expertise with Joule ERA fund capabilities to finance projects that reduce operating costs for customers, moderate environmental impact associated with energy use, and gain above-market returns for investors. The energy reduction asset market, comprised of energy efficiency, demand response, distributed renewables and energy storage, represents greater than a $500 billion investment opportunity. Achieving this potential will transform our energy system and fulfill the environmental demands of the 21st century.
Joule Assets is seeking a candidate willing to play an integral role in implementing 2 European projects, and assist upper management in their efforts to develop Joule Assets’ business ventures in Europe. We are looking for a candidate with strong interpersonal skills, service orientation and attention to detail to strengthen Joule Assets’ operational capabilities.
As Administration Intern, the candidate will:
- Take care of the overall office administration for a very international team
- Provide administrative support to the EU team, by maintaining contact databases, organizing meetings and arranging travels
- Support staff members as they identify, recruit and negotiate with partners (contractors, energy service companies, etc.), by drafting outreach and PR material, including the maintenance of the company’s website.
The candidate must be a self-starter, with a passion for and experience with all aspects of office administration. The candidate will:
- Acquire hands-on experience in an international business, through collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders and business partners all over Europe and the US.
- Get an in depth understanding of H2020 project work
- Be part of a fast-growing company in the smart energy business environment
The selected candidate will work in the Brussels office, under the joint supervision of Jessica Stromback and Michael Pachlatko. Candidate will also collaborate with and learn from Joule Assets’ experienced team, based out of New York.
Responsibilities – the key responsibilities for this position include:
- Office Administration:
- Accounting, expense reports, invoicing
- Travel arrangements for senior staff
- Other clerical tasks (phone, scheduling of meetings, procurement of supplies etc.)
- Project Administration:
- Organization of meetings and workshops
- Expense reports and project budget tracking
- Coordination of and follow-up with project partners and stakeholders
- Setting up meeting agendas and keeping the minutes
- Support in writing regular progress updates and project reports
- Support in maintaining company and project websites
- Support business development staff in identifying, recruiting and negotiating with new partner companies. Partner companies utilize Joule Assets project financing to deploy energy reduction projects.
- Actively participate in internal strategic discussions on prioritizing initiatives
Experience – the ideal candidate will have previous experience in the following areas:
- Professional experience in a similar role (ideally in Italy)
- Solid accounting skills
- Excellent English and Italian language skills, fluency in French an additional asset
- Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint
- Database management and CRM (Salesforce)
- Event management
- Web administration, CMS (Wordpress)
- Project management
- Business development
- Interest in energy technology and sustainability

Compensation and Scope
Full time paid internship for a 5-months fixed period at 40 hours per week with a monthly salary of €1’100. The place of work will be Brussels, Belgium, and the position may lead to a permanent contract in Bologna, Italy. Keep in mind that 90% of our permanent employees started as interns. The successful candidate is expected to start on 1 August 2016.
