Internship/Traineeship - E-learning design for climate services - UNOSAT

Background: UNOSAT is the operational satellite applications programme of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). It is a technology-intensive programme active since 2000 in applied research and innovative applications relating to geospatial information technology and satellite analysis, and mapping. UNOSAT also delivers to its beneficiaries tailor made training courses on the use of geo-information technology for, among other topics, disaster risk reduction.
UNITAR/UNOSAT is supporting the Global Framework on Climate Services in its national capacity development efforts. The Global Framework for Climate Services is finalizing a Guidance on “Developing a Framework for Climate Services at National Level”, and UNITAR has committed to develop an e-tutorial to accompany the publication of the document.
General objectives of the internship/traineeship:
The intern/trainee will support the development of the e-tutorial on the establishment on national frameworks for Climate Services. She/he will also support design and research activities in support of UNITAR/UNOSAT projects depending on time availability. In addition, the intern/trainee will support UNOSAT in its communication and awareness-raising efforts, by developing short e-tutorial and/or interactive packages as required.
Responsibilities/Description of Professional Services:
The intern/trainee will be responsible for:
  • Organizing the content provided and identifying the most appropriate instructional design approach to develop the e-tutorial;
  • Supporting development of the e-tutorial´s storyboard by collaborating effectively with the supervisor and the training development team;
  • Designing and developing the e-tutorial (graphics, photo selection, basic video editing);
  • Supporting the team with other e-learning related tasks as required.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the internship/traineeship, the incumbent will:
  • Gain practical experience developing e-learning tools as part of a multi-cultural and multi-functional team;
  • Gain practical experience in turning highly technical information/guidance into user-friendly learning materials;
  • Increase knowledge in the areas of disaster risk reduction and climate change;
  • Gain familiarity with the work UN Organizations and partnerships;
  • Apply time and management skills in order to respect tight deadlines.

Qualifications
Successful applicants will have an interest in international affairs, in particular climate change, environment, or development issues. Skills and coursework with e-learning authoring tools, in particular Articulate Storyline, are required. Basic video editing skills are also required. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator) is desired. Some familiarity with programming would be an asset. A high level of individual responsibility, commitment and initiative will be desirable.
Education: Master’s degree in Education, Information and Learning Technologies, E-Learning or related fields. Candidates with Bachelor’s degree and some relevant experience will be considered.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English. French and/or Spanish will be considered an advantage.
Duration of contract: As soon as possible for at least 3 months. Longer commitments would be an asset.
