Electoral Officer - The SADC Secretariat

The SADC Secretariat wishes to invite suitably qualified, experienced and result oriented citizens of SADC to apply for the following position tenable at its Head quarters in Gaborone, Botswana.

Electoral Officer

Main Purpose of the job:

To provide both technical and administrative support to the SADC Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC) in relations to all electoral matters.

Main duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare funding proposals for SEAC and Electoral Support Unit in support of elections and electoral process
  • Prepare an annual calendar of elections in the SADC region
  • Prepare plans for and coordinate SADC Election Observer Mission under the guidance of SEAC
  • Develop a database of SEAC Election Observer Missions
  • Organize and coordinate training of SADC election observers
  • Prepare statements and press briefings for SADC Electoral Observer Missions
  • Prepare timely and accurate reports on all SADC Electoral Observer Missions
  • Build partnership with relevant regional continental and international organizations
  • Provide technical and Administrative support to the SEAC and the Election Support Unit
  • Participate and present paper in national and international conferences on behalf of SADC
  • Undertake any other assignments as directed by the Senior Officer-Politics and Diplomacy from time to time

Other Skills Requirements:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of and acquaintance with elections and electoral process in SADC
  • Demonstrable publication record on elections and electoral processes in the SADC region
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Excellent project administration and management skills
  • Understanding of financial planning and management
  • Demonstrable experience in project coordination and networks/partnerships building
  • Demonstrable experience in project coordination and networks/partnerships building.
  • Demonstrable motivation and skill to take initiative and achieve results meeting deadlines
  • Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and various stakeholders
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledge of ability to learn computerized analysis packages
  • Demonstrate skill and experience in team work
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and circumstances
  • Ability to work under pressure in flexible and autonomous environment
  • Willingness to travel
  • Valid drivers license
  • Fluency in English (working knowledge of either French or Portuguese will be an added advantage).

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Sciences from the recognized University.

Experience:

The candidate must have a minimum of Three (3) years working experience in an institution relevant to the professional requirements outlined above.

Remuneration:

Position Average Package per Annum
Job Grade 8 US$ 80,564

Duration:

This assignment is a one year project with possibility of renewal.
