Job Description

Assmang Chrome is a ferrochrome mining and smelting company based in Machadodorp, Mpumalanga Province of South Africa. Machadodorp Works consists of 1 x 54MVA totally closed submerged electric arc furnace (EAF) complete with Outokumpu technology stationary preheating kiln (preheater), 3 x 33MVA open submerged EAF. All open furnaces are complete with baghouse and gas cleaning facilities to prevent environmental polution. The Works also boasts the Pelletising Plant, Raw Materials Handling Plant, Metal Recovery Plant and Crushing, Screening and Dispatch Plants.

Excellent opportunities exist within the Engineering SBU at Machadodorp Works for the above-mentioned positions.

The minimum requirements are: * Recent University Graduate - BSc Mechanical/Electrical Engineering. Please note that only those who have already been conferred with their BSc Mechanical/Electrical Engineering degree need to apply or * B-Tech Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, coupled with 4 years' experience in the Mechanical/Electrical field.

The positions involve, but are not limited to: * Acquiring on-the-job practical engineering training exposure at Machadodorp Works. This is intensive 18-month postgraduate hands-on practical training in the Mechanical/Electrical Engineering field covering all operational SBUs of Assmang Chrome Machadodorp Works
* Gaining practical engineering and maintenance working knowledge of raw materials handling system, pelletising plant, submerged arc furnaces, metal recovery plant processes and crushing, screening and dispatch
* Achieving practical working knowledge of the capital projects management processes from conception to commissioning. This involves hands-on mechanical/electrical engineering design exposure * Gaining practical working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it affects Engineers in a heavy metal industry
* Gaining practical exposure to company-wide safety, health and environment as it affects the work and functions of Engineers.

This is an opportunity to get assistance with registration with the ECSA as Candidate Engineers and later as Professional Engineers upon completion of training and achieving the necessary practical engineering experience. Each Trainee Engineer will be mentored by a team of Professional Engineers on-site.

Upon completion of the training, candidates will be eligible to register with the Department of Labour for their GCC Factories examinations and should be in a position to be appointed as Mechanical/Electrical Engineers at any section within our Engineering SBU.
