The Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted) is one of the largest regulatory and inspection bodies in England. Ofsted inspects and regulates to achieve excellence in education, skills and care for children, young people and adult learners. Ofsted takes pride in raising standards and improving lives, while providing value for money. The Government’s wide ranging reforms for the public sector will have direct implications for Ofsted’s priorities and resources. Therefore, we are seeking an outstanding individual able to lead Ofsted through this period of significant change and oversee the delivery of more proportionate and focused inspection and regulation, increased public engagement and improved ways
of working.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a wide range of leadership skills together with the necessary vision, determination and passion to improve standards and outcomes for children, young people and adult learners. This is an exceptionally demanding role in changing times. It offers the right individual a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference to raising educational standards and outcomes for children and young people.

Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector is appointed by the Crown. In line with proposals to increase Parliamentary scrutiny of appointments to key posts, the preferred candidate for this post is likely to be required to appear before the Education Select Committee prior to appointment.
