Barrick is headquartered in Toronto, Canada and has 26 mining operations with many advanced exploration projects located across five continents and a large number of tenements located on some of the most prolific and prospective mineral trends. Seven of Barrick's mining operations are found within the Australia Pacific region, with its regional head office located in Perth, Western Australia.
Exploration in the Asia Pacific Region is currently focused on Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG). Australia continues to be one of the world’s leading nations with substantial resources and minerals deposits.
PNG is perhaps one of the world’s most exciting and challenging regions for gold exploration. Currently, Barrick has over 6,000 square kilometres of contiguous ground for exploration in what is considered one of the world’s most highly endowed and under explored gold and copper regions.
Senior Geologist - Exploration
We are seeking to appoint a Senior Geologist for our PNG Operations. Working with Exploration Geologist Management to execute and lead agreed exploration programmes and ensure the collection of high quality geological data leading to the discovery of new gold deposits that will have a significant impact on the Company’s earnings and growth. All Exploration programmes, in line with Barrick’s core values, are to be undertaken as safely and efficiently as possible.
Key Accountabilities include:
• Developing, executing and managing Exploration programmes on time and on budget
• Maintenance of systems and procedures to ensure all geological functions are carried out safely and productively
• Complete Formal Risk Assessment’s (FRA’s) for each significant program; appropriately documented and revised on a regular basis
• Coordinate the completion of progress, results and review of all programmes, including reporting to Senior Management
• Supervision of all external contractors and staff to ensure activities are conducted in compliance with Barrick PNG and Minerals Resource Authority (MRA) safety and environmental standards
• Ensuring the timely completion of Barrick and statutory technical reporting as required
• Coaching and mentoring a team of Project Geologists, and taking responsibility for their further development and training.
• Regular preparation of material as required for inclusion in company presentations
• Assisting in due diligence and project reviews for the Exploration team as required
The successful applicant will demonstrate the following skills and experience:
• Bachelor of Science (Geology), preferably with honours or higher
• Minimum 6 - 8 years relevant experience; including geological interpretative skills
• A proficiency in a variety of computer packages, including Vulcan and Datamine
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, community and environment
• Strong communication, administration & leadership skills.
• Understanding of economic parameters of mining operations
• Integration skills of multi-disciplinary datasets
