Communications Assistant (Publishing)

Job Purpose:

Undertake layout, typesetting, and minor design services, and prepare files for various production destinations such as digital printing, offset printing, and web uploading

Expected Outcomes:

  • Layout and typesetting of knowledge and awareness-raising products for DER and requesting departments.

o Coordinate and cooperate with fellow DER publishing staff in the preparation and completion of publishing projects.

o Prepare layout templates for use in appropriate documents, according to ADB Visual Identity System (VIS) guidelines.

o Perform the following functions through the application of various software to meet specified requirements:
- Lay out and typeset academic and non-academic material
- Produce cover and layout designs under the instructions of the Art Director
- Generate press-ready graphs and charts based on image reference

  • Prepare final artwork material for production as required for targeted production processes

o Ensure that layout meets applicable standards by proper integration and positioning of graphics and text.

o Maintain an updated file of each major and regular publication for use in succeeding issues.

o Maintain a daily record of completed work and work in progress, and alert supervisor to disruptions in schedule or other problems.

o Perform other related duties as may be assigned by immediate supervisor, and as reflected in the incumbent's workplan.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in graphics art or electronic publishing, or relevant degree

Relevant Experience And Other Requirements:

Work experience
  • 3 to 5 years relevant work experience acquired in a large publishing or printing company

Technical knowledge

  • Must have expert understanding of the principles of typesetting and page layout, able to contribute inputs on creative and design direction
  • Must be highly competent in the use of the following software: (i) Adobe InDesign, (ii) Adobe Illustrator, (iii) Adobe Photoshop; and should be familiar with basic use of Microsoft Office software, such as (i) MS Word, (ii) MS Excel, and (iii) MS Powerpoint.
  • Knowledge of all relevant ADB-specific guidelines, standards, and procedures.

  • Able to quickly adapt to and authoritatively embrace ADB's administrative procedures.
  • Able to work collaboratively with teams as a constructive team member.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English
