We are looking for an intern (paid) to work with the international humanitarian law (IHL) team to support our education programs, including our current work in schools and colleges. The intern will work as part of a small team where he/she will gain hands on experience working with our Exploring Humanitarian Law (www.redcross.org/ehl) and International Humanitarian Law programs.

An interest in marketing and promotion, social media, communications and development is essential. Our interns work as integral members of our team and carry out professional level work in a supervised atmosphere.

Responsibilities include supporting the team’s EHL outreach and promotion activities, including preparing talking points to support chapters’ EHL efforts and their contacts with educators and schools, drafting articles and short updates for the EHL newsletter and/or educational publications, compiling monthly updates for our network of IHL instructors, supporting the team’s participation at local conferences and the organization of IHL and EHL trainings at NHQ, assisting with the collection of best practices and performing follow-up activities to strengthen our EHL and IHL network and to gather information for monitoring and reporting purposes.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Advanced undergraduate or graduate student in marketing, social marketing, communications, political science or international relations; • Must have strong written communication skills and experience with marketing and promotion; computer skills, including familiarity with the Web and social media tools; • Strong interest in international issues and in IHL; • Must be responsible, mature, able to work independently, high organized, detail-oriented, able to handle multiple tasks at the same time and work under deadline pressure; • Willingness to do background research and perform general office duties, as required.
