DESCRIPTION Oxfam Italia works in the Occupied Palestinian Territories since the years 1994-1996 with interventions primarily in the social and agricultural sectors. This decade of experience, together with that gained in the field of food security in particular with sheep and goats herders, were the basis for designing the project entitled "Economic Recovery in the Gaza Strip: Promoting Choice, Resilience, Dignity", submitted by Oxfam GB and approved by DANIDA.
This project aims to intervene in support of the most vulnerable communities of Palestinian farmers and breeders of Gaza Strip in order to improve their living conditions, through supporting them during the milk production, dairy processing and the marketing of the final products.
The required profile is that of an expert on livestock who will be in charge of supervising and organizing activities related to this sector in the Gaza Strip. In performing its functions, the Agronomist will work under the supervision of the Country Coordinator. The expert will also assist the identification of new project proposals, in line with the strategy of Oxfam Italia in the country in the agricultural sector, working with the Country Coordinator and the Head of Mediterranean and Middle East Office in Italy.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES The following tasks must be carried out in cooperation with the Country Coordinator and the Head of Mediterranean and Middle East Office in Italy: • Regular technical and administrative management of the component of the project to be implemented by Oxfam Italy in Gaza Strip; • Supervision of the regular implementation of the activities as scheduled in the project proposal and coordination with the activities directly implemented by the partners; • Regular reporting and coordination with Oxfam GB as leading agency of this project and responsible for its management toward the donor; • Participation to coordination meetings organized by international and local agencies; • Reporting about the progress of the activities; • Supporting the Country Coordinator in identifying and developing new project proposals in the field of food security and agricultural development.
QUALIFICATIONS • Advanced university degree in agronomics, veterinary or other related fields required; • Demonstrated expertise in rural development with a focus on livestock production and/or dairy processing and marketing chain; • At least 2 years of relevant project management experience and 3 years as livestock expert and/or dairy production expert; • Good knowledge of developing countries structures and experience working in marginalised communities; • Excellent written and spoken English; • Strong computer literacy with a full knowledge of Ms Office; • Problem solving attitude; • Good team player with strong initiative who can manage multiple teams; • Good inter-personal and communication skills; • Staff management skills, including motivation, delegation, support, training, monitoring and appraisal; • Ability to adapt and work in difficult situations. The following qualifications will be considered as an asset: • Previous experiences in projects related to the dairy sector; • Interest and motivation to work in a non-profit organization; • Knowledge and previous experience in the country; • Awareness of Italian and Arabic and / or Hebrew.

SELECTION CRITERIA CVs will be pre-selected according to their coherence with the required profile. Candidates might be called for interviews and selection tests starting from the first day immediately after the deadline for the submission of CVs. Interview in Florence or Arezzo, Italy.
