Waiariki Institute of Technology CHIEF EXECUTIVE

ACU Ref: 58910
Closing Date: 30 January 2012

Uniquely bicultural and regionally important
Inspiring, collaborative and authentic leadership

The Waiariki Institute of Technology is one of the largest government-owned tertiary education providers in the Bay of Plenty/South Waikato area. It has experienced considerable growth in both domestic and international student numbers in recent years, now enrolling 3500 full time equivalent students. This has resulted in a significantly improved financial position, enabling substantial investment in educational performance and the creation of a more vibrant, modern and inclusive environment that supports improved educational outcomes.

The Council, supported by Te Mana Matauranga, wishes to appoint a Chief Executive who will consolidate the gains made in recent years whilst challenging staff and students to even greater levels of achievement. Waiariki is committed to educating and supporting students who will be instrumental in the future economic and social development of the region. In particular, it is committed to reducing the disparity in tertiary educational achievement between Maori and non-Maori students. By providing excellent vocational training Waiariki also aims to attract students from a wider national and international catchment.

The Chief Executive will be an astute leader of people, with the ability and desire to influence and collaborate across New Zealand’s tertiary sector, and partner with regional communities, industry and iwi. Proactive and innovative, the preferred candidate will influence and inspire educational and organisational achievement and a commitment to enhancing Waiariki's growing reputation as a uniquely bi-cultural educational institution. The CEO will demonstrate sound business and financial acumen.

The Waiariki Institute of Technology seeks to lead the way in innovative, high quality and cost effective vocational education. After a period of significant advancement Waiariki is seeking an inspirational leader to take it to the next level of success.
