Overview and Mission

The International Diabetes Federation’s (IDF) Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme gives young university graduates, and young qualified professionals the opportunity to obtain training and exposure to IDFs work in the field of diabetes and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). All JPO posts are based at the Federation’s Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. This scheme is open to EU nationals only.

IDF is a progressive international federation of over 200 national diabetes associations with 2 million members in more than 160 countries and territories. IDF is a non governmental organization (NGO) and has official relationships with the United Nations, World Health Organization (WHO) and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

This JPO post will work in the IDF Policy and Programmes Department with a focus on the Women & Diabetes Programme which aims to strengthen the evidence base on the burden of diabetes and gestational diabetes on women; raise awareness of and political commitment to women and diabetes as a priority global health and development issue; improve health systems responsiveness to the needs of women living with diabetes, and promote women and girls as key agents in diabetes prevention strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the coordination and implementation of IDF’s Women & Diabetes Programme;
  • Contribute to strengthening the evidence base on women and diabetes and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) more broadly;
  • Summarise research and conduct literature reviews on key areas of the women and diabetes research agenda, identifying knowledge gaps where relevant and support the drafting of policy and research papers, briefs, consultation responses and presentations;
  • Work with the Communications Department on the communications elements of the Women & Diabetes Programme, such as drafting information for the website, newsletters, editorials and developing campaign materials;
  • Facilitate the sharing of good practice within the Federation on the women and diabetes agenda;
  • Pursue new partnerships and alliances for IDF in the field of gender and development;
  • Identify potential funding opportunities for the Women & Diabetes Programme, and draft funding proposals;
  • Support the logistics and work of the NCD Alliance Women and NCDs Working Group.
