Overview and Mission

The International Diabetes Federation is looking for a highly experienced individual to join its senior team as Director of Policy and Programmes to help drive forward its mission to advance diabetes care, prevention and a cure worldwide. This is an exciting and challenging time for individuals who want to make a difference to the lives of millions of people with diabetes or at risk of diabetes. The Director of Policy and Programmes will have a vital role in shaping IDF’s response to the UN Summit on non-communicable diseases, creating and delivering innovative programmes to ensure that global political commitments on diabetes become effective activities at the local level. This is a role for a creative individual with a strong background in public health and international development programmes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leading the development of diabetes policies and programmes and managing their successful implementation.
  • Developing and structuring new projects and supporting external relations in negotiating applications for new programmes and project funding.
  • Leading IDF’s Policy and Programmes team – including senior specialists from a range of disciplines – to achieve high quality results.
  • Representing IDF at strategic partnership meetings, networking to advance IDF’s objectives.
  • Reporting to the IDF Board on IDF policy and programmes.
  • Supporting the IDF Board Committee on Policy and Programmes.
  • With the CEO, Director External Relations, Director Governance and Congresses, and Director Finance and Administration serving as a member of the Senior Management Team for the IDF Executive Office.
  • Providing advice to other teams in IDF, particularly External Relations
