Overview and Mission

The International Diabetes Federation’s (IDF) Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme gives young university graduates, and young qualified professionals the opportunity to obtain training and exposure to IDFs work in the field of diabetes and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). All JPO posts are based at the Federation’s Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. This scheme is open to EU nationals only.

IDF is a progressive international federation of over 200 national diabetes associations with 2 million members in more than 160 countries and territories. IDF is a non governmental organization (NGO) and has official relationships with the United Nations, World Health Organization (WHO) and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

For 60 years, IDF has been at the vanguard of global diabetes advocacy. The Federation is committed to raising global awareness of diabetes, promoting appropriate diabetes care and prevention, and encouraging activities towards finding a cure for the different types of diabetes. It is IDF’s mission to promote diabetes care, prevention and a cure worldwide.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the coordination and implementation of IDF’s Advocacy Programme;
  • Analyse diabetes/NCD research, publications and reports, and summarise key messages and statistics for advocacy;
  • Contribute to the preparation and drafting of policy and research papers, briefs, consultation responses, and advocacy publications;
  • Draft letters to key decision makers, Ministers, and other high profile figures;
  • Support in the researching and drafting of speeches and presentations for IDF’s leadership;
  • Contribute to the dissemination of advocacy information via IDF’s website, blogs, newsletters, editorials and campaigns including World Diabetes Day;
  • Share global and regional advocacy updates to IDF’s Board, Regional Chairs and Member Associations;
  • Support in the preparation and logistics of specific events at key international meetings and conferences;
  • Develop new partnerships and alliances to further IDF’s advocacy objectives;
  • Assist with the development and coordination of joint advocacy work with the NCD Alliance (IDF, World Heart Federation, Union for International Cancer Control and The International Union Against TB and Lung Disease).
