Intern, International Response Operations Center
The intern will work as part of a small team where he/she will gain hands-on experience to enhance skills in organization response readiness and disaster response. An interest in emergency programming and disaster response support functions is essential. Our interns work as integral members of our IROC team to carry-out professional level work in a supervised atmosphere.
We are looking for an intern who can work 20 hours a week for 10-12 weeks.
Responsibilities: The intern may support the IROC’s work in the following areas:
Response Operations Research internal processes and best practices in disaster response areas such as cash in emergencies, emergency shelter programming, distribution planning tools Ensuring readiness to respond through equipment management, upkeep, purchase, replenishment, and database Assist with development of Cash Transfer Programming research and SOPs Assist with activities to support disaster response operations of the International Services Department
Training and Development Support Research additional training, professional development, and distance opportunities for international disaster response roster volunteers Assist with training activities including organizing applications and administrative support
Research Assist in response analysis and decision making Assist with management of information resources for reports, presentations, fact sheets etc.
Skills and Qualifications: Graduate student with demonstrated interest in Disaster Management, International Relations, or Humanitarian work Education or experience in training development and distance learning also preferred Must have strong research, organization, business process skills and be very detail oriented In addition to required computer skills (such as Word, and PowerPoint, Adobe), advanced computer skills with Excel and Access is required Ability to develop and format fill-able forms and templates Overseas experience, or strong interest in international issues is a highly desirable Must be responsible, mature, able to work independently, highly organized, and able to handle multiple tasks at the same time and work under deadline pressure Willingness to do basic research and administrative support depending on daily priorities
