IT Specialist

Position Summary
The IT Specialist will be responsible for performing IT-related helpdesk request, managing the Intranet, and coordinating Freedom House’s information security strategies. She/he will work with end-users, third-party network and IT support vendor and consultants to develop, implement, and maintain flexible IT security solutions (with a preference toward open-source solutions), dictated by the needs of a rapidly evolving security-conscious environment. The selected candidate will be a results-oriented professional who can achieve tangible improvements in the information security and IT support arenas.
Some Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide and coordinate IT helpdesk support and trouble-shoot with third-party network and IT support vendor to ensure first-rate customer service and support
  • Coordinate the team of security experts and vendors who safeguard the company's IT assets, intellectual property and computer systems to identify, implement, train staff on, and maintain information security solutions to enhance the organization’s data and communication efforts
  • Develop, maintain and keep current and relevant Freedom House's Intranet system
  • Maintain accurate and complete inventory of all IT equipment and software
  • Maintain IT procedures and systems documentation and ensures staff are properly trained
  • Maintain audio/visual presentation and conferencing equipment

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, engineering, or related area
  • 1 – 3 years of directly related experience
  • Demonstrable ability to implement and work with open-source encryption and security solutions
  • Ability to anticipate and proactively address the IT needs of the organization and its end users
  • Ability to conduct research into security issues and products as required
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong ability to trouble-shoot and solve multi faceted problems
  • Strong ability to communicate IT-related concepts to a range of technical and non-technical staff
  • Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations and meet tight deadlines
  • Highly self-motivated and directed with strong organizational skills
  • Strong understanding of the organization's goals and objectives
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standard of customer service is essential with outstanding oral and written communication
  • Ability to serve as an effective member of a high-paced operations department
