Kenyatta University wishes to recruit qualified and dedicated applicants to fill the following vacant positions:

SCHOOL OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM
DEPARTMENT OF HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

Lecturer
Applicants must be holders of a PhD Degree from a recognized university or have successfully defended a PhD thesis in Hospitality/Tourism from a recognized University. Applicants should be able to teach at least three (3) of the following subjects in the hospitality area:

  • Hospitality Financial Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • Meeting and Events Management
  • Property Management
  • Hospitality Operations Management
  • Facilities Management
  • Hospitality Marketing
  • Management Information Systems
  • Strategic Management
  • Legal Aspects of Hospitality and Tourism
  • Computer Applications in Hospitality and Tourism
  • Food production and service

In addition, the applicant should:

  • Have a full-time university teaching experience as a Tutorial Fellow or as an Assistant Lecturer for at least three (3) years.

Tutorial Fellow
Applicants must be holders of a Master of Science Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management from a recognized University. In addition, the applicant must have at least three (3) years teaching experience at university level.

Successful applicants must be prepared to pursue a PhD degree in Hospitality.

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH
DEPARTMENTS:
  • Environmental Health
  • Health Management & Informatics
  • Community Health

Secretary - Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE Mean Grade C (Plain) and above. They must also have a credit or Grade C in English and above. They must also be holders of a Diploma in Secretarial studies.

In addition the applicants must have:-

  • At least three (3) years relevant working experience in a busy organization.
  • Evidence of computer literacy.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Knowledge of office administration.

Computer Technician - Grade C/D
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division II/KCSE mean Grade C+ (plus) and above. In addition, they must have a minimum professional qualification of Higher National Diploma in Information Technology/or Computer Science or its equivalent.

The applicant must:-
• Have a post qualification experience of at least three (3) years in a busy organization
• Be conversant with statistical analysis software (EPi Info, SPSS or Stata).

Computer Technician - Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III/KCSE mean Grade C (plain) and above. They must have a minimum professional qualification of an Ordinary Diploma in ICT related field from a recognized institution.
The applicant must:-

  • Have a post qualification experience of at least three (3) years in a busy organization
  • Be conversant with statistical analysis software (EPi Info, SPSS or Stata).

Laboratory Technician - Grade C/D
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division II/KCSE mean Grade C+ (plus) and above. In addition they must have a minimum professional qualification of a Higher National Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or Applied Biology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. Those with B.Sc. degree in the relevant field will also be considered.

The applicant must:-

  • Show evidence of computer literacy.
  • Have at least three (3) years working experience in a busy teaching or research laboratory at the level of Technician Grade A/B or equivalent.
  • Must be registered by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologies Board (KML TTB) will be an added advantage.

Laboratory Technician - Grade A/B
Applicants must be holder of KCE Division III/KCSE mean Grade C (plain) and above. In addition, they must also have an Ordinary Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or Applied Biology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

The applicant must:-
• Show evidence of computer literacy.
• Have at least three (3) years working experience in a busy teaching or research laboratory.
• Must be registered by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologies Board (KML TTB) will be an added advantage.

OPEN DISTANCE AND E-LEARNING
Deputy Registrar (Examinations)
Applicants must be holders of a Masters Degree in Public Administration or any other relevant social Science from a recognized University. They must have worked in a senior Administrative position in a busy organization preferably an Educational Institution for at least five (5) years and must be computer literate.

The Successful candidate will be expected to have effective leadership qualities as the job entails coordinating a workforce of senior and junior officers.

Computer Technician - Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCE Div. III /KCSE mean grade C (plain) and above. They must have minimum professional qualification of ordinary Diploma in an ICT related field from a recognized institution.
In addition applicants must:

  • Have at least three (3) years relevant working experience preferably in a busy teaching institution.

NYERI CAMPUS
Senior Assistant Registrar

Applicants must be holders of a Masters Degree in Management preferably in Human Resource Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized University. In addition, applicants must have:

  • At least five (5) years post qualification working experience in Human Resource Management and general administration in a busy organization preferably in an institution of higher learning,
  • At least three (3) years of which at the level of Assistant Registrar or equivalent.
  • Evidence of computer and communication skills.

Additional professional qualifications in management such as CPS or equivalent from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.

DIRECTORATE OF ACCOMODATION SERVICES
Accommodation Services Manager

Applicants must be holders of a university degree in Institutional Management. A college diploma in Institutional Management will be an added advantage. They must also have 3 years experience within the accommodation industry.

The applicant should have the following skills and abilities:

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Leadership ability.
  • Human resources management skills .
  • Administrative skills.

The manager will be required to carry out the following responsibilities:

  • Prepare budgets and monitor the Directorate’s revenues and expenses
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of accommodation policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the recruitment of accommodation staff.
  • Develop work schedules.
  • Determine training requirements.
  • Supervise the use of accommodation facilities.
  • Resolve customer complaints.
  • Carry out any other responsibilities assigned by the Director.

ADMINISTRATION DIVISION
Senior Legal Officer

Applicants should have the following:

  • A minimum of Masters in law from a recognized institution.
  • Be advocates of the High Court with current practicing license.
  • Five (5) years experience of legal chambers handling legal matters for a busy organization, Government department or an institution of higher learning.
  • Be well versed and experienced in Labor Laws of Kenya.

The applicant’s duties will include:

  • Handling legal matters of the University
  • Advising the University on legal matters
  • Assisting the Universities lawyers in all court proceedings involving the University and giving advisory opinions when needed.

Legal Officer
Applicants must be holders of a Bachelors Degree (LLB) from a recognized institution. In addition, the applicant must:

  • Have at least three (3) years experience of legal work in legal chambers handling legal matters for a busy organization, a government department or an institution of higher learning.
  • Be advocate of the High Court with current license.
  • Be well versed and experienced in Labour Laws of Kenya.

KENYATTA UNIVERSITY RADIO STATION
Radio Technician – Grade A/B

Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade D+ (Plus) and above. They must also have professional qualification of a Diploma in Broadcast Engineering or equivalent from a reputable institution. In addition, the applicant must:

  • Have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in a media setting.
  • Be well versed with studio operations and radio production.

Those with knowledge of I-Media package will have an added advantage.

SCHOOL OF VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS

Department of Art and Design
Junior Technician Grade III/IV
Applicants must be holders of KCE or KCSE mean Grade C- (minus) and above. In addition, the applicants must have a Certificate in Textile Technology with a specialization in Fabric Decoration or Design from a recognized Institution.

They must have at least three (3) years relevant studio experience in a busy textile studio firm or teaching Institution as a Studio Assistant.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily studio operations in the Fabric Design section of the Art and Design Department working with both the students and staff.

TRANSPORT
Ambulance Driver Grade III/IV
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division IV or KCSE mean Grade D+ (plus) and above. In addition applicants must have:

  • Class ABCE certificate with a clean driving record.
  • At least five (5) years continuous driving experience.
  • A PSV certificate.
  • An up-to-date valid certificate of good conduct.
  • A defensive driving course.
  • Advanced first aid training.
  • A caring attitude and be reassuring.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Holders of a certificate of vehicle mechanics/maintenance and repair will have an added advantage.

Terms of Service:
The terms of service for the teaching posts of Lecturer and above include membership to a pension scheme, a generous medical scheme, a house allowance and a commuting allowance. Other posts will be based on a two (2) year renewable performance based contract and gratuity will be given at the end of the contract.
