Chad Psychosocial Field Coordinator

HIAS, Inc., the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, one of the oldest immigration and refugee assistance organizations, is recruiting a Psychosocial Field Coordinator to be part of its team coordinating and implementing assistance and community service activities for Darfurian refugees in eastern Chad.

The HIAS Community Service Program for Darfurian Refugees in Chad seeks to strengthen refugees’ social conditions and to convey skills needed to survive and function in the aftermath of extreme violence. The goal of the Program is to prepare the refugees to re-assert control in their lives and successfully transition to a long-term solution to their situation.

Specific duties include: - Plan, coordinate and offer psychosocial care and community services to refugees of all ages. - Conduct individual and group counseling. - Coordinate community education sessions on a variety of topics, including sexual and gender-based violence, conflict resolution and peace education. - Supervise a team of local staff and refugee mobilizers. - Monitor and evaluate the program’s effectiveness. - Work with partner agencies in the provision and referral of services. - Develop training materials. - Provide weekly and monthly reporting on activities. - Attend stakeholders meetings. - Ensure services are offered in a professional and ethical manner.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work or its equivalent with relevant experience in the provision of emergency psychosocial care with three years or more professional experience in a reputable organization/institution; experience in facilitating group and individual therapy and training; education counseling or conflict resolution desired. Good team player with excellent cross-cultural interpersonal skills; proactive and able to work under minimal supervision. Experience providing psychosocial support to women and children a plus. Experience working in a refugee camp under insecure, challenging, and harsh conditions desirable.

Language requirements: 1. Very good knowledge of written and spoken English 2. Fluent in French 3. Knowledge of Arabic a plus

Computer skills: 1. Proficient in MS Office

The post is unaccompanied and is offered on a one year basis - renewable according to mutual agreement. The successful candidate will be expected to take up the appointment as soon as possible.
