Liberia CIVIL/STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

The position of Civil/Structural Engineer will be to assist in the completion of agricultural development projects, building storage facilities for commodity maintenance, improving grain mills. In addition, the Civil/Structural Engineer will, under direction of the Project Manager, work on the expansion of irrigation systems, improvement of market-access roads, and various other structural/agricultural improvement projects. Position also oversees extension of credit to enhance farmers’ productivity and income level.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Works with Project Manager and local staff to ensure projects are completed in accordance with SFL Headquarters and donor guidelines.

•Under the director of the Project manager work on construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project site.

•Provides technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to field personnel.

•Inspects project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards.

•Estimates quantities and costs of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility.

•Test soils and materials to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt or steel.

•Computes load and grade requirements, water flow rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications.

•Plan and design transportation or hydraulic systems and structures, following construction and government standards, using design software and drawing tools.

•Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.

•Works with the Project Manager on topics such as bid proposals, deeds, environmental impact statements, or property and right-of-way descriptions.

•In conjunction with the Project Manager participates in surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction.

Education and Required Background: Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. Minimum five plus years’ experience. Experience in Africa, particularly with an NGO highly desired.
