Depending on professional background, experience and family situation, a competitive compensation and benefits package will be offered. The successful applicant will be offered a fixed-term appointment of one year duration limited to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). This appointment and any subsequent extension(s) are subject to terms of the Tribunal’s mandate and/or the availability of the funds. The Special Tribunal for Lebanon is an international inter-governmental organization with its own independent legal identity and not a UN organization. However, STL follows the UN common system for benefits and entitlements to its staff members. UN staff members may also serve on loan from their parent department/office, if selected.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the overall supervision of the Legal Officer on Judicial Matters, The Transcript coordinator oversees the production of transcripts in the STL’s three official languages (English, French and Arabic), transcription in one or two languages (English and/or French) to be provided on-site as real-time court reporting and the other language(s) to be produced off-site after hearing(s); Performs quality control on transcripts and may be required to transcribe audio recordings of hearings in Arabic; Ensures consistency in page numbering in all three versions of the transcript; In close cooperation and upon information received from the parties, ensures that transcripts do not contain confidential information before they are released to the public; Implements any redaction ordered by the Pre-Trial Judge or the Chamber by expunging from the public version of the transcript any confidential information protected by the redaction order; Ensures that corrections relating to transcription or interpretation errors are implemented in the transcripts and that all recipients are informed thereof; Ensures that access to the Court transcripts is given to the authorized Chamber and participants; Reviews the final version of the transcript for public use; Develops and maintains a transcriptions log and follows up on the production of transcripts with service providers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

• Work Experience: At least 5 years experience in a language-related function.

• Languages: Arabic, English and French are the official languages of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. For this post very good command of written English and/or French and working knowledge of the other is required, as well as fluency in oral and written Arabic. Knowledge of Lebanese spoken Arabic would be considered an asset.

• Other: Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure. Demonstrated ability to use computer technology.
