Manager, Disaster Response Strategic Support

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a dedicated professional for the role of International Manager, Disaster Response Strategic Support. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Global Disaster Response, this individual will contribute to the strategic development of the Disaster Response Department as it seeks to serve HFH affiliated organizations in their work related to disaster risk reduction (DRR) and disaster response (DR). Focus is given to 1) the elaboration of funding proposals for all work related to the DR department and projects and initiatives to be undertaken in the field by HFH affiliated organizations in coordination with mission-aligned partners, 2) the development of internal and external documentation on promising practices and sector-wide initiatives, and 3) the strengthening of HFH DRR & DR field capacity. This position will be located at HFHI's Administrative Headquarters in Atlanta, GA.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  1. Engage and connect HFH to peer agencies and networks, authorities and the DR donor community (50%): 1.1 Serve as grants subject matter expert within HFH's DR department, leading HFH's grant writing efforts as related to DRR and DR
    1.2 Develop and nurture institutional relationships with technical donor community on behalf of the Habitat federation. 1.3 Manage and promote involvement of HFH sector-wide evaluations and reviews vis-à-vis HFH engagement in coalitions and consortiums 1.4 Manage and direct HFH reporting and evaluation compliance with grants in the area of DRR and DR 1.5 Ensure that HFH's DR web page is up to date and reflective of the best use of that resource in the development of HFH's DRR and DR work

  2. Build capacity of HFHI & HFH entities to design and implement disaster response programs (20%): 2.1 Manage and contribute to the on-going capacity building of HFH personnel in areas of DRR and DR; especially as related to grant development and donor reporting; facilitate sessions for HFH staff at all levels
    2.2 Manage and contribute to the development of training materials and modules --with an emphasis on virtual training and on-line materials including but not limited to the use of HFHI's intranet-- in the areas of DRR and DR 2.3 Manage the effective use and constant improvement of HFH's Disaster Corps program, including but not limited to HFH's relationship with volunteers, deployment of the same, and database of volunteer certifications and trainings 2.4 Contribute to the development of HFH DRR and DR PDM&E processes and metrics 2.5 Promote and track the inclusion of HFH DRR and DR subject matter experts in sector trainings and events

  3. Research, identify and disseminate disaster response promising practices and internationallly-accepted standards throughout the entire HFH community (20%): 3.1 Manage and contribute to the development of case studies of HFH field work in both DRR and DR 3.2 Manage and contribute to HFH's engagement in sector papers, articles, guidelines and other publications 3.3 Manage and contribute to the devleopment of cut sheets on promising practices based on HFH field experience 3.4 Ensure that all needed evaluations and project reports are carried out as stipulated in DRR and DR grant agreements 3.5 Serves as a Content Manager within the DR publishing group in support of Habitat's intranet

  4. Advance the development of the global HFH DR leadership team and community of practice (10%): 4.1 Participates in and helps create opportunities for on-going interactions with DR SMEs throughout the HFH network 4.2 Ensure that HFH's DR web page is up to date and reflective of current projects and initiatives

Key Skills Include:

• Bachelor's Degree require; Master's Degree preferred • Disaster Risk Management experience required • Knowledge and experience in the arena of government grant development, management and reporting required • Strong written and oral communication skills required • Strong research and analysis capacity required • Knowledge of HFH operations preferred • Willingness to engage in on-going professional development in the arena of DR issues needed • Ability to generate fresh ideas sought • Capacity to integrate DR concepts into wider program ones, write and edit technical papers and notes on DR issues essential • Needs to be a critial thinker, attentive to detail, a self-starter, have strong organizational skills, be flexible, able to work with minimal supervision, able to multi-task and have excellent customer service outlook • Must have excellent organizational skills especially in the area of information management • Successful candidate will have strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel, Access and Publisher.
