Research Commercialisation Manager

Bath Ventures

University of Bath

Salary: Starting from £36,862, rising to £44,016
Closing Date: Tuesday 03 January 2012
Interview Date: Tuesday 24 January 2012

The University of Bath ranks highly in the league tables of UK universities and was recently named University of the Year 2011-12 by The Sunday Times. From its widespread, long-standing business relationships and a £95 million research portfolio, the University has many commercial opportunities and is now looking to recruit two experienced, commercial, and creative individuals to execute on the most promising of these and maximise their value for the University.

The Research Commercialisation Managers will be specifically responsible for commercialising the University's research output and identifying, developing and executing significant deals with business and industry. Working alongside other colleagues who are focused on longer term research development, the Managers will have particular responsibilities for commercialising research themes and or clusters e.g. around Engineering and Physical Sciences or Life Sciences, working on opportunities that are up to 2 years from market.

The role demands experience, commercial acumen and a track record in delivering commercially-led projects with companies and entrepreneurs. With a flair for creative deal making, the Managers will identify the best routes for research commercialisation and manage the resources needed to get results - this is likely to include licensing, co-development, working with external organisations such as the TSB and, where the investment is warranted, the creation of new spin-out companies.

The role is undoubtedly challenging but the successful candidates will be able to build their practice on the University's numerous, long standing business relationships, and other resources which include SETsquared, the enterprise partnership of the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey, and the Innovation Centre, which is the University's business incubator and network hub.

As part of Bath Ventures in the University's Research Development & Support Office, the Managers will be joining an ambitious team of which is motivated to achieve substantial growth in the value of research commercialisation at the University of Bath.
