Video Editing Intern – Common Ground Productions

Summary

The Video Editing Intern for Common Ground Productions will primarily provide support to CGP’s Editor and Executive Producer. This is a very hands-on internship, with the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of video editing projects for promotional material and episodic drama, amongst other tasks. This internship offers a wonderful opportunity to learn about these projects, and about how media is being used to promote principles of conflict resolution and peace building.

Common Ground Productions

Common Ground Productions (CGP) is SFCG’s media production division. Radio and television, as well as social media and the internet are platforms Search for Common Ground uses to promote peace and conflict resolution through its innovative programming. From episodic drama to reality TV or radio talk shows and music videos, Common Ground Productions is dedicated to harnessing the power of the media for peace. Responsibilities

Intern duties are wide-ranging and may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting the Editor with a number of projects varying in technical difficulty, such as editing video using Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Studio
  • Assisting with day-to-day administrative tasks, such as completing shipping orders both internationally and domestically, filling out invoices, and organizing CGP’s media library
  • Logging, subtitling, and dubbing videos, assisting with editing, preparing material for post production
  • Assisting with equipment maintenance and cleaning; maintenance of videotape databases
  • Update equipment inventory as needed
  • Some graphic design as needed

As internship descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.




Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will exhibit:

  • Be a Junior or Senior in college in a related area (Communications, Film, Broadcast Journalism, Television, International Affairs with experience and/or an interest in TV/video production, or similar), or have similar experience.
  • Facility with and knowledge of Final Cut Pro and other Final Cut Studio programs is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills essential, both written and verbal, in order to communicate with people through various levels of technical language, including the ability to distribute information to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to speak French, Portuguese, Arabic, or Nepalese is a plus.
  • Good organizational skills highly important in order to keep track of many departmental duties.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a proactive style and the ability to meet deadlines, both as instructed and self-imposed.
  • Self-starting, enthusiastic and flexible approach to the organization.
  • Ability to work well individually as well as a member of a team.
  • Strong people and presentation skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to influence and manage change.
  • Ability to learn and implement tasks quickly.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Highly developed research and problem-solving ability.
  • A keen interest in international affairs.
  • Desire to work in a non-profit setting.
  • Flexible work attitude: the ability to work productively and independently in a team environment, with the ability to respond rapidly to changes, yet remain focused on the priorities.
