Chief Geologist, Reserves & Resources United States

Responsibilities include: As part of the Regional team the successful candidates main focus lies in the creation, tracking and management of resource development and reserve replacement programs for the North American Region. Work with operations, business development, and financial departments to identify and prioritize programs for reserve replacement, potential acquisitions, and resource targets and coordinate the programs with the Corporate Reserve and Resource personnel. The candidate will be required to work closely with the regional Exploration VP to track progress of resource development strategies within the North American region in addition to coordination of activities with the Corporate Manager, Reserve Strategy.

Duties include but not limited to the following:
• Provide leadership and display ownership of the development of site and Regional strategies for resource development and reserve replacement.
• Serve as Qualified Person for the reporting of reserves where needed.
• Manage the development of the Barrick Mine site Exploration System within the North American Region.
• Organize and manage the budgeting and ranking of Mine site Exploration targets within North America
• Provide technical support to operating mines in all areas of mine site exploration, and reporting of resources and reserves.
• Mentor operations geology staff and work to upgrade their skill levels as needed
• Monitor development of mineral resources at operating mines along with programs to support the conversion of these resources to reserves.
• Identify, prioritize and develop drilling programs, including economic justification and support, to allow for the definition of potential resource additions and/or reserve conversion.
• Develop monitoring and tracking tools to allow regular reporting of the regional status of resources and reserves, including the efficiency and cost of reserve replacement strategies.
• Track, and report on, specific budgets related to reserve replacement.
• Provide long-term forecasts for resource development and reserve replacement.
• Ensure consistent sampling, QA/QC, geologic and geotechnical data collection programs are in place where drilling programs are conducted at Barrick sites.
• Assist in due diligence review efforts by third party mineral resources experts or in house experts of resources under consideration for acquisition or development.

SELECTION CRITERIA

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: To be considered for this job, applicants must meet these basic requirements:

• Geology or Geologic Engineering degree required. Postgraduate education in Mineral Economics or Business Development preferred
• Practical knowledge of exploration techniques and geologic / resource modeling tools required
• Relevant experience in the assessment, evaluation and estimation of gold deposits to qualify as a ‘Competent Person’ under NI-43-101 and JORC code required
• Practical experience in mine and exploration geology procedures, in both underground and open pit operating environments preferred
• Detailed knowledge and experience in reconciliation between mine production and ore reserves required
• Project management experience, plus a background in budgeting and AFE development preferred
• Strong involvement in due diligence of acquisitions and or disposition of assets required
