The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking an individual for the position of Information Assistant in the Public Affairs Section (PAS).

Minimum Requirements

NOTE: ALL APPLICANTS MUST ADDRESS EACH SELECTION CRITERION DETAILED BELOW WITH SPECIFIC AND COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION SUPPORTING EACH ITEM. Items 1-7 are ALL REQUIRED 1. A college degree in liberal arts, political science, economics, journalism or international relations.2. Two to four years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, public relations or journalism.3. English level IV (fluent) - writing/reading/speaking is required. (This will be tested).4. Good working knowledge of South Africa’s media, political, economic, social and education structures; of its institutions, political parties and key figures in the mass media, education, military, government, cultural, labor and business circles. 5. A detailed knowledge of and interest in broadcast and emerging media, including on-line and digital media.6. Should be a “news junkie” who constantly watches/reads/listens to the news from a wide range of media outlets and has the ability to develop and maintain working level contacts with radio and TV correspondents, editors, station managers, news directors government officials community and media workers, media trainers and professionals in the broadcast media.7. Must have the ability to produce rapid , accurate translations from Tswana, Sotho or Zulu to English and ability to type 40 W.P.M or greater.

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position: The incumbent plans and implements Public Affairs Section (PAS) information programs with emphasis on contact with training of the broadcast and community media.
