About the Global Fund

Since its creation in 2002, the Global Fund has become the main financier of programs to fight AIDS, TB and malaria, with approved funding of US$ 22.6 billion for more than 1,000 programs in 150 countries (as of 1 December 2011). To date, programs supported by the Global Fund are providing AIDS treatment for 3.3 million people, anti-tuberculosis treatment for 8.6 million people and 230 million insecticide-treated nets for the prevention of malaria. The Global Fund works in close collaboration with other bilateral and multilateral organizations to supplement existing efforts in dealing with the three diseases.

Job Summary

Remuneration: Basic annual salary starting from 103,600 Swiss Frs. (CHF).

Work Cluster Unit: External and Internal Communications Department.

Role Summary: The Associate Specialist, Media is responsible for communicating about the Global Fund mission and activities across all media platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Field and handle media inquiries;
  • Promote and disseminate Global Fund messages;
  • Expand communications in implementer and donor countries;
  • Actively use social media to accelerate messaging;
  • Draft communications materials (press releases, talking points, q & As, blogs, etc.);
  • Set up media briefings for Global Fund staff;
  • Organize field visits for journalists;
  • Support media outreach at international conferences;
  • Generate and cultivate media contacts, especially in Asia.

Qualifications:

Essential: Advanced University Degree in Communications, Social Sciences or Humanities.

Experience:

Essential: 5-10 years of experience in journalism, international relations, communications or public relations. Significant work experience in Asia.

Competencies:

Languages: An excellent knowledge of English and preferably a good working knowledge of French or one of the following: Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. Knowledge of other languages would be an asset.

Technical Competencies: Excellent writing, editing and oral communications skills.
