CARE International in the UK is a vibrant and innovative charity with a strong track record. We are seeking a new Chair to support our major ambitions to extend the impact of our poverty-fighting work and grow our voice and influence in the development arena. Over the last few years, CARE International UK (CIUK) has developed significant expertise in private sector engagement as a development solution; conflict and peace-building; how governance affects people’s life chances; and shelter and reconstruction. We have recently launched the UK’s most exciting individual donor opportunity in www.lendwithcare.org. At a UK and global level, CARE International is now at an exciting stage in our history with great opportunities that must be grasped. We are looking for an outstanding individual who can help us achieve an even greater level of impact for the world’s poorest people.

The Role:

  • Provide overall leadership to the organisation, ensuring that Board members and the Senior Management Team remain focussed on achieving the vision, mission and strategy of CIUK.
  • Play a major role in raising the profile of our work with major businesses, policy makers and a range of influential stakeholders, creating significant funding and PR opportunities for the organisation wherever possible.
  • Working with the Chief Executive, manage the resources of the Board to ensure that the interests of CIUK are represented effectively across the global Care International Confederation.

The Person:

  • Significant track record as the leader of a major, high profile organisation with strong global connections and a reputation for ethics and responsible working.
  • Substantial experience of operating at main board level, ideally in both executive and non executive capacities, with strong knowledge of governance and effective board working.
  • Excellent communication, ambassadorial and networking skills, passionate about international development and supporting vulnerable people across the globe.
