The University of Auckland invites applications for appointment to Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in French, in the School of European Languages and Literatures, commencing in 2013. The School is seeking a mid-career academic with an excellent research and publication record, and a strong commitment to teaching, graduate supervision and leadership. The position is open with respect to specialist research and teaching areas within French. Ability to teach collaboratively in other areas within the School may be an advantage.

The successful appointee will work within the School of European Languages and Literatures, which offers French, German, Italian, and Spanish from undergraduate to doctoral level, together with interdisciplinary programmes in European Studies at undergraduate and graduate level, and at postgraduate level in Comparative Literature and Translation and Interpreting Studies.

The Department of French is the largest in New Zealand in terms of student numbers and academic staff. As well as language acquisition from beginners (Delf A1) to graduate level (Dalf C1-2), it teaches a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses (most of which are taught and assessed in French) based on the research interests of academic staff. These currently cover the fields of French and Francophone literature, film, linguistics, translation and medieval studies. Colleagues in French also contribute actively to interdisciplinary courses in European Studies, Comparative Literature, and Translation Studies. The Department has close links with universities in Metropolitan France and the South Pacific, involving academic staff and lecture exchanges as well as a number of joint doctoral thesis agreements and plans for collaborative graduate teaching and research (FLE).
