The University of Auckland is seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate to strategically and operationally lead the research support systems throughout the University; enhancing research quality and intensity, maximising funding opportunities and ensuring compliance requirements and stakeholder needs are met.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), the Director will manage a team of over 40 staff with six direct management reports. The ideal candidate will preferably hold a PhD and will demonstrate a solid understanding of the research environment, ideally from within a university, including knowledge of funding sources, regulations and an understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing New Zealand research today.

This is an exciting position for an experienced research management professional to excel in a challenging environment. Key senior management attributes expected are strong relationship building and influencing skills, an efficient administrative ability and an innovative and proactive strategic leadership style. The ideal candidate will have an adaptable and flexible mindset and will be able to deal effectively with ambiguity while remaining results focused. The ability to build effective teams and demand high standards of performance and excellence are also key to success in this role.

This is an initial five year fixed term role and will attract a competitive remuneration package.
